Just having listened to Leonard Cohen's First We Take Manhattan and thinking about the cool opening line made me stumble across this: http://flavorwire.com/167657/50-of-the-best-opening-lines-in-music

so, what are some other awesome opening lines to songs?

They sentenced me to 20 years of boredom

For trying to change the system from within

PS I know that there's an old thread about this topic, but it wasn't used in 4 and a half years... fresh start?

I remember that old thread, and it seems like it was Laurie who came up with:

"Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk, I didn't mean to call you fat." But I can't remember who it was by...

Great opening lie, tho.

That's a song by LIT

"My Own Worst Enemy"

trivia: they wrote it as a punishment/ reminder to not get too cocky as they had done after the success of their first album.

"Please allow me to introduce myself

I'm a man of wealth and taste

I've been around for a long, long year

Stole many a man's soul and fate"

My first thought on first hearing that phrase was: "wow, wt*#%* is this gonna be about....".

The surprise is still vivid.

"So I always get nostalgic with that song

But in my room its forced

It has to be in some car across the street"

That Song - Big Wreck

I dunno why, but the very first line sets the tone (& the title) and there's no long intro, he starts singing almost right away and that makes me love it.

where we could talk it out over a cuppa joe

and you could deep into my eyes... like i was a supermodel. "Banditos" - Refreshments
