Tenacious_Peaches
I feel vaguely insulted that you spaketh the unholy name of Vanilla Ice whilst discussing my beloved Air Supply, TimLizzy. What should they be called if not soft rock?

skybluesky
Calling Air Supply soft rock is like calling Vanilla Ice soft rap. I coined the term FRap-Faux Rap for Vanilla Ice, Hammer, Young MC, et al. And NO BODY knock the down under wonder that is the Supply

MindCrime
Calling Air Supply soft rock is like calling Vanilla Ice soft rap. He is soft rap, when compared to the likes of N.W.A. and the rest of the Death Row label. Unless that was part of the joke and I took it too literally. TheLizard
I'm saying "soft" is a stand in for "bad".
RockyRaccoon
I feel Air Supply has never really been given a chance as a serious band. I'd say Russell Hitchcock has quite a good voice. And he holds the record for the longest held note in a top 40 hit song. And there are some pretty cool guitar solos in some of their songs. c_s_1987
I do actually consider Phil Collins to be up with the greatest drummers of all time (well, definitely not top ten, but probably top fifty) by the way. If you don't understand why, listen to Selling England By The Pound. Edited October 27, 2009 by Guest Misspellination

skybluesky
I like Barry Manilow, and Neil Diamond, and Phil Collins, and Air Supply, and Leo Sayer, and any one else that might be termed lame and I am taking a stand. Any one can like any thing and any one they want and NO ONE has the right to make fun of them for it. If you don't like it, I will find where you live, follow you around and sing Copacabana into a bull horn right at you where ever you go. Now shut up! Steel2Velvet
Obviously acts like Celine Dion, Barry Manilow and Phil Collins have millions of admirers as a tribute to their talents or they wouldn't have achieved the fame that they have known. As musical tastes run the gamut, so there are acts for any taste. The problem comes when we denounce an act as being "no good" or "crap," which immediately causes those who care for the talents of the denounced act to rise up in defense. It is much better to acknowledge that the music industry is a tough one to crack into its profit centers; and that all acts deserve a degree of our respect. I mean there are top tier acts I wouldn't pay 25 cents to see and yet their achievements that got them to the top should certainly not be belittled by me nor perhaps any rational music lover. pinkstones
I happen to like Phil Collins, both his work in Genesis and his solo stuff and don't get the hatred for him.
Uncle Joe
First of all I don't hate anybody. I merely don't happen to enjoy Barry Manilow. I don't believe I ever made fun of anyone who likes his music. My wife would smack me. Secondly...Shannon, did you ever pay Sammy your NEWB dues? He has a long memory ya know. So, please stop trying to heap your beliefs upon me, because it will not work. And yes, I believe Shannon still does owe Newbie fees.
