Golden Oldies Top 40 #11

Recommended Posts

WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN OLDIES TOP 40 #11. :)

The other Thread was getting a bit crowded, so we'll now use a separate one for each week's Top 40. Also, Laurie will be joining me and opening the Top 40 from next week. We'll try to make the opening and closing times a little more uniform than they've been. More about that soon. You might have some thoughts about it ?

All members of Songfacts are most welcome to vote and help create next week's Top 40. You don't have to be an 'oldie' like me - just someone who appreciates this kind of 'Happy Days' music.

.................................................

Eligibility of songs:

* U.S. Charted Pop AND R&B Singles of the 1950s+ era, but not charted after 1963.

* No Album Only Tracks or Uncharted B Sides.

* U.S. Chart Links may be found for on Songfacts' Main Index page, where there are alphabetical links to many songs, either by Title or Artist. If your songs aren't there, you could use Google/Wikipedia - or PT me if in doubt.

..................................................

IT'S EASY !!! Allot your points in 3 sections:

PART A: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #10 (below) you'd like to advance:

(Plus) +5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

PART B: 5 Existing songs in Top 40 #10 (below) you don't really care for, or you think could make way for others:

(Minus) -5, -4, -3, -2, -1.

PART C: 5 New Songs you'd like to see in the next Top 40:

(Plus) *5, +4, +3, +2, +1.

Please note that these may be duplicated on a number of Lists - you can go along with others to support songs you like.

VOTING IS NOW OPEN ! :)

TRIVIA QUESTION.

There are two songs above (that I know of - could be more) that have people,

who to my knowledge never wrote a song, listed as likely 'bogus' co-writers.

Any ideas which ones ? ;)

While you're thinkin' - have a go at this. :)

TRIVIA QUESTION.

There are two songs above (that I know of - could be more) that have people,

who to my knowledge never wrote a song, listed as likely 'bogus' co-writers.

Any ideas which ones ? ;)

Here's a couple of hints.

One was a well known singer included as co-songwriter on this record, presumably at the insistence of his manager. ANSWERED BY MINDCRIME. :)

The other was a leading DJ of his time. Somehow his name was 'included' as co-songwriter on this singer/songwriter's first Pop Hit. ANSWERED BY LUCKY. :)

Carl (The Chief) has faith in the potential of our GO Top 40.

He's given it a separate sub-forum in 'Music Discussion Classic'.

Thanks very much Carl. :)

We hope we can now justify his action by gaining new voters, together with our loyal band of regulars, and expand our weekly GO Top 40 to make it a feature here.

The more voters we have of course, the more diverse the Chart will be.

A big thanks to Lucky also for combining the Charts into one thread.

The other was a leading DJ of his time. Somehow his name was 'included' as co-songwriter on this singer/songwriter's first Pop Hit.

When "Maybellene" was released it was credited to Chuck Berry & Alan Freed a New York DJ of the time involved in the payola scandals.
