Looking for movie about motown stars

a while ago, could be year or three. lol I saw a trailer for a movie that was about different stars of motown, and I dont know what it is, but it looked like a good movie. anybody know of any good movies about the motown era?

I just watched a movie the other night called "The Temptations" Also,mentioned were "Diana Ross"..."The Miracles"..."Holland, Dozier(sp?) Holland"... you know..."Lotsa people" It was pretty good and interesting...

Dreamgirls was a pretty good film. The more recent release centered around Chess Records personalities & stars, Cadillac Records, is even better, IMO.

and the music was good too...that was american music at that time...and chess records had all the good blues guys...(and women too) And...Don't forget the Blues Brothers movies... the actors? But, some of the musicians are the real deal...

I found the music of Cadillac Records better than the music of Dreamgirls. Dreamgirls, while good, disappointed me a bit. Cadillac Records did not.

You could take a look at "Standing In the Shadows of Motown" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314725/. I haven't seen it, but this documentary on Motown's house band, The Funk Brothers, has a dynamite soundtrack.

^^^^ Oooh yes Oto that's the movie I was trying to think of when I saw this question.....I haven't seen it yet either, but I heard it was a must see...

"Standing in the Shadows" is a great biopic of the Funk Brothers. Lots of interviews with the guys themselves. If I remember right most of the music in the film is new performances, there aren't a lot of live clips from the past. I believe it features several clips of todays' artists coveriing, Joan Osborne being the only one I remember. She does a good job. A very very good film.

Me'Shell Ndegeocello doing a stunning job of "You've Really Got A Hold On Me". . The documentary focuses on the Funk Brothers, a loose-knit band of session/studio musicians largely responsible for the "Motown Sound".
