bazooka Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 What Is Success -- Allen Toussaint covered by Bonnie Raitt What is success? Is it do your own thing ? Or to join the rest And if you truly believe it, And try over and over again Living in hopes That someday you'll be in with the winners
blind-fitter Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 who says divorce isn't a success story? Fair point. But whether or not this song is written from the perspective of the injured party (as it appears), it is about loss, grief, resignation (defeat?) rather than success, surely? The ironic reference to a Winner in the title/chorus must be understood in the context of the bitterness and resentment of the "loser standing small". I rate this song as one of Abba's finest moments, a real highlight in the history of pop, and I love it.
