  1. Well? You're supposed to name another album> C'mon johnny, get in the game!!
  2. Johnny, welcome to Songfacts. I'm jr. I'm in charge of sweeping the hallways after the place closes. (Not to mention cleaning up the occasional pile of Songfactor poop left behind by some of our unhousebroken Songfactors) Sorry so late for the welcome, but I was just making sure that banana wasn't going to get up and start dancing before i said howdy. Hope you stick around.
  3. I typed it that way to see who would be the first to crack wise about it. Congrats, Diggs. Tell him what he's won, Johnny!!
  4. I may as well chime in on this. But first, let me preface this by saying i'm merely a passive PF fan. I own The Wall, DSoTM,and Wish You Were Here. All that other stuff is too weird for me. However, the three I own , i know note for note, and they all have their own distinct merits. To say one is better than the other, well, is just as subjective as when asked who the best guitarist in the world is. You're never going to get a definitive answer. It's a matter of opinion. Personally, I lean towards the Wall, simply for the overall concept. It tells a wonderfully tragic story. The movie only serves to enhance the album. However, my favorite single song by PF, is, and always has been, Time. The sheer desperation and realization of the uselessness of one's life makes it, IMO, one of the best songs of all time. (no pun intended) Anyway, that, like all the other posts, is just my opinion.
  5. Now look, I'm only going to say this once more....the whole reason i started this thread is so that I wouldn't have to look this stuff up every day. Don't make me have to do this again. Annabelle, you're on double secret probation. I neeeed you to do this. No soup for you!! December 23: 1940 Jorma Kaukonen, guitarist for Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, is born. 1943 Harry Shearer (aka Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap) is born. 1955 Keyboardist Bruce Hornsby is born. 1965 Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash is born. Events 1964 The Beach Boys make their first appearance on "Shingdig!" singing "Little Saint Nick," "Dance, Dance Dance," "Johnny B. Goode" and "Monster Mash." 1966 BBC-TV broadcasts "Ready, Steady Go!" for the last time after more than three years during which the weekly show was the U.K.'s most popular pop-music television program. The special guests for the farewell show are the Who. 1966 Pink Floyd perform at the opening of a London club called the Night Tripper, which will soon change its name to the UFO Club and become the center of London's psychedelic underground. 1967 The Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Foxy Lady" is released. 1969 Elton John and Bernie Taupin begin writing songs together. 1970 Joni Mitchell, earns her first gold disc as a performer with her third album, Ladies of the Canyon. 1972 Former Grand Funk Railroad manager Terry Knight shows up at a benefit show staged by the group armed with two deputy sheriffs and a 20-foot moving van. Knight has a court order giving him the right to seize and hold $1 million in money or assets pending settlement of several lawsuits between the him and the band. However, since the show can't go on without the equipment, Knight is told by lawmen not to touch the amps or drums until after the concert. 1972 John Lennon's film "Imagine" premiers on national TV. 1974 Just as John Lennon had done three years earlier, George Harrison releases a holiday single, "Ding Dong, Ding Dong." The song only reaches #36. 1978 Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" is released.
  6. I'm not detracting from Lennon/McCartney at all. Their work has given me years of enjoyment. I've just always thought George never got the accolades he deserved. Granted, as I said in my original post, he doesn't have the sheer volume of the others, but what he did write, for me personally, touched me on a deeper level. Frank Sinatra said "Something" was the most beautiful song ever written.
  7. I've been thinking this for years, so I thought I'd put it out there and see what others thought about the matter. I believe there are enough Beatle fans for this to merit it's own thread, that's why i didn't just stick it in Random Music Thoughts. As far as John, Paul, George and Ringo are concerned, I've always felt that George wrote the best songs. He didn't have the sheer volume of Paul or John, but as far as pure, heartfelt lyrics, I've always enjoyed his stuff more than the others, during and after the Beatles. My Sweet Lord, What is Life, Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, etc, are so soul gripping. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  8. Sue, you're mistaken. Ozzy's the reason their albums stopped selling. (well, one of the reasons). So he took his voice (or lack thereof) and went and sold a bajillion albums on his own. Thank goodness we've been straightened out on this matter.
  9. Does anyone besides me see the humor in this? As far as Ozzy's lacking voice, I'd like to see a comparison between Ozzy's sales and Tony's BS after he left.
  10. I know all about him. I lived through it. I was 18 in 1982. Rainbow in the Dark, etc. He's no Ozzy, as evidenced by the plummeting album sales when Ozzy left. But, everyone's entitled to their opinion. And as long as it's Tony's BS, what difference does it make? BTW....in your profile...your occupation...you can't be serious.
  11. Boy, have you come to the right place.
  12. Haven't heard much from them since he left.....
  13. Go ahead, do your interlude. i know you're dying to.
  14. I have it :: I have a few of her cds. I think my favorite cut of hers is probably Independence Day. Good Lord, she wails!
  15. She's not really traditional country. I love her , too. Powerful. Nothin' shakin here, my lttle gumdrop. Where were you last night? I stood on the corner for 2 hours.Baby, it was cold outside.
  16. I saw the Crossroads with Pat Benatar and Martina McBride. You talk about two small women with huge voices. Gave me goosebumps. Hi Carol Honey. I've missed you.
  17. So let me get this straight....Albert King died on December 20th and December 21st?
  18. I usually only breeze through this section, because I know when to leave matters to the most qualified people. That's why I didn't know it had been covered. Unless it say "need an old song", I know I'm not going to know who it is.
  19. There's a commecial with people holding up frames and it's like they're taking pictures of themselves. I like the song, but all I know for sure is they say "picture book". It's a catchy song, and there are more lyrics than that. I suppose next time I'll have to listen more closely.
  20. i spelled it wrong, as well. I ask the kids, they say "It's Skaterboy". Cut us some slack, woman.
  21. You have to clarify these boundries in your initial post, youngest. I like Complicated and Skater boy. Those are the only two I recognize when my kids are in the car.
