  1. I liked Mallory's take on the Arthurian legend and add Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe, I recall seeing the movie from the 50s and was enthralled by all the differing characters with their own purposes and goals. I got the book, watched the other versions, and loved it all. It was a polished version of other mythological warriors by making them more realistic with emotional depth and human dimension. Before that, it was Beowulf, The Nibelungenlied, and assorted Greek myths of old (Homer being be the pinnacle of what I've read). These authors paid so much attention to detail, it's amazing. I've never read something as detailed as that of the locals. The Popol Vuh is the only thing that comes to mind and it's kinda boring on paper. I'm probably more fascinated by the true story of the natives - the Nazca designs, the ancient Mayan ruins, the Easter Island statues, things like that.
  2. John Carpenter's theme for Halloween :: The theme for Terms Of Endearment. Bernard Herrmann's Theme From Taxi Driver.
  3. 1. Glam: David Bowie, T. Rex, Nick Gilder. 2. New Romantic: Japan, Visage, Duran Duran. 3. Goth: Bauhaus, Clan Of Xymox, The Cure.
  4. You'd be the only one if it was Jefferson Starship :: "We built this city of rock 'n roooooll"
  5. MC Hammer Vanilla Ice New Kids On The Block (used to watch the cartoon on Saturday mornings on ABC!) Take That (still listen to them ) I'd be more embarrassed if someone caught me listening to Black Metal, though. Stuff like Type O, Ohgr, Marlin Manson, Cradle Of Filth, and tripe like that.
  6. These guys, they be good If you like them, you might also seek out the sounds of The Postal Service. I think both bands have the same lead singer or something like that. Great tunes all around. All the college kids here love Cutie.

I second the La Brea tar pits suggestion. There are also places in the midwest (I think it's Utah) where you can go mining for mineral rocks and fossils. Those places have a lot of trilobites that if you can dig out, you can keep:
  8. Haha I got it out again to watch Stonehenge
  9. Aren't there two "Mick Jones"? There's the one from Foreigner and the other from... The Clash! ::

I was surprised they'd choose a compilation over an album. I liked Doolittle the best, but I think it's because it's the first album that exposed me to the world of indie rock. Btw, from what album did Pulp's "Death Goes To The Disco" come from? That one is my top favourite by them. I'm lazy and short on time to look for it myself kthxbye
  11. Hahaha. That's so fuzzzzy and cute!
  12. I made it to 11 twice! What's happening to me
  13. U2? Is this the same U2 this guy is talkin about? I'd almost forgotten about them. They dropped off the face of the earth in 1987. http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=11worst
  14. This is great news, man :: Best of luck and enjoy every minute of it. Where others live vicariously, you get to be there first-hand :guitar:

I second the Pulp recommendation. I wonder if that's counterproductive

  17. Hehe. "Canada! They started a country and nobody came!" - Rodney Dangerfield
  18. Isn't there another one in Maine? I thought for sure Gary, Indiana would make the list again, but I think the size of their population isn't big enough or somethin'. But, seriously, Fresno?! Not Compton, Watts, or South Central? Has cow-tipping taken a lead in crime statistics

  20. Hey! I think I've seen your website posted in another music forum. Small world :: These are the songs that charted in France, I believe. It's fascinating what the French placed in the charts back in the 80s.
