One of the world's most famous architects has been chosen to oversee the construction of The U2 Tower, it has been announced.

Norman Foster, the brains behind the Gherkin in London and the Millau Viaduct in France (and reconstruction of the Reichstag building in Berlin), was selected by Dublin's Docklands Development Authority.

He will now head-up the operation for the city's first ever skyscraper, which will reach a height of 120m and cost around 200 millions euros.

Commissioned by Geranger Ltd, a consortium including the members of the Irish rock group, the tower will apparently feature an egg-shaped recording studio at its peak.

Work on the landmark is expected to commence next year with a completion date scheduled for 2011.

120m high, egg-shaped dome on top? This tower might end up resembling an enormous prick. :o

Quite a fitting tribute to Bono then*.

*And I don't mean that he's well-equipped in the trouser department.
