OLD 55
If we are doing the Halloween Top Ten, I will have to nominate Horror Movie by Skyhooks. I haven't decided on my other nom yet. That would be a great one, Chris, but I don't know if that particular song (their best, I think) by Skyhooks is well known outside Australia. "Horror Movie", for all who don't know it, just happens to be the Evening News; man made disasters, natural disasters, man's inhumanity to man - you get the drift. ................................................. You've done an EXCELLENT JOB suggesting and running the Ultimate Top Ten. Take a bow Mate. I haven't (and won't) check to see who haven't voted. PT them by all means, but only give them a couple of days. We've really all had plenty of time to vote if we want to. I sound like Kevin ! He used to get stuck into me for 'chasing up people'. Frustrating, isn't it ? Edited October 16, 2006 by Guest Halloween Top Ten IS a goer !

Farin
Thanks Farin, but I didn't really mean songs like Sympathy For The Devil, etc. In fact I don't reckon I thought it through properly, and it would be open to so many different interpretations that I think we would be creating a "monster" and should just let it drop now. no, don't knock the idea because I don't happen to understand the rules yet... I don't have much experience in celebrating Haloween you know? I'll just wait what the others are nominating and do so accordingly...
edna
Yes, I agree with Farin... I don´t have any experience with Halloween neither but I was planning to nominate "Dancing with Mr.D" and some other I still have to decide...
OLD 55
O.K. Just for you edna. I don't want to be a "Killjoy". Maybe it would be fun. I wasn't knocking it because of not understanding rules - I just wonder 'what rules do we set ?'. I'm afraid we might get some pretty weird nominations, especially if we allow obscure album tracks, so without being too dogmatic, the songs nominated will have to be relevant and fairly well known. Right now I don't want to take attention away from the Ultimate Top Ten, so we'll organise some 'Guidelines' - lets not call them 'rules' - for a Halloween Top Ten when it's completed. edna
I just checked the list of songs in Wikipedia and I didn´t find my future Halloween Special Top ten nomination, "Dancing with Mr. D."... and according to what Darryl said on his post, I think it´s very accurate. Why did they list "Paint it black" or "I put a spell on you"? It has no relation with it (maybe the line "...put a spell on..." ) So I will post the lyrics in the random lyrics thread... and plan to nominate it anyways. OLD 55
Thanks RonJon and edna. I'll OPEN the Halloween Thread now so we can keep this one free for The Ultimate Top Ten. edna, I didn't see that list of songs you mentioned in Wikipedia. I'd prefer us to think of ones ourselves, as you have. Dancing With Mr.D would be fine ! Makes more sense than Paint It Black.
OLD 55
THANK YOU TO THE 27 PEOPLE WHO VOTED. I FEEL THE THREAD HAS LOST A LITTLE OF IT'S IMPACT BECAUSE IT'S DRAGGING ON TOO LONG. I DECLARE VOTING OFFICIALLY CLOSED. NEARLY TWO WEEKS IS PLENTY OF TIME TO VOTE FOR ANYONE WHO'S INTERESTED ! CHRIS SEEMS TO BE BUSY AT THE MOMENT, BUT I'LL PT HIM TO CHECK MY CALCULATION OF THE POINTS NOW. AS IT WAS HIS BRAINCHILD, I WOULD LIKE HIM TO ANNOUNCE... c_s_1987
As you may have guessed, I was originally planning to keep this open for two weeks and to try and make sure as many people as possible got to vote. However, most people seem to disagree with me on this, and Darryl in particular has convinced me that there is no point in waiting for so long when I have given everyone plenty of time to vote. Of course, since voting is closed now, there is no point in hanging around. So here's: THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE ULTIMATE TOP TEN 1. Paint It, Black - The Rolling Stones (1966) – 73 2. OLD 55
Let me be the first to thank and congratulate Chris for his Great Idea. I hope we can do it again after Top Ten #50. Good on you Chris. You're very innovative and a breath of fresh air in the Top Ten Threads, as is our good friend Farin, whose idea it was to commence the Top Ten Archives. Thanks to Judo also for the Monthly Graphs.
edna
Great list... very classic again, so I love it!!! And of course, thank you Chris, Farin and Judo!!! Oh, and thank you Ol´fif too...
Farin
and you guys were so sure that "In my Life" was a clear #1... it's a great list obviously, since all 50 songs are great PS: 3 points!
OLD 55
I BEG YOUR PARDON FARIN QUOTE FROM THE 'CAMPAIGNING THREAD'. I (THE ORACLE) TIPPED IT. PSCYCHIC READINGS BY APPOINTMENT. BRING $$$$$ Really, my #1 Pick of the lot is Del Shannon's Runaway, but realistically I know the youngsters won't vote for it. Paint It Black was a great choice for the 'Theme Song' of the late 80s/early 90s? TV Series "Tour Of Duty". It was always one of my favorite Stones' songs before that of course. Gimme Shelter will poll well too ! VOTE
The Seeker
Thanks to everyone who organised this--it's a really good idea! Paint It Black is not one of my favourite songs, and I would have preferred In My Life to be number one, but they're all almost equally great songs and this list is, as usual, awesome. And of course-- My Generation made the list
OLD 55
Well Seeker, it was all Chris' idea. Before the 5 Rounds of The Ultimate Top Ten started, he actually went through every song that had been in Top Tens 1 - 25 and gave each one a rating. He 'seeded' these in ranking order. RonJonSurfer
Oh BTW, the omission of Sunshine of Your Love and Revolution from the Top 10 proves you people are nuts. Thanks!! Malakin
Yay me! My only nomination to reach number 1 made it to number 5 on the ultimate list! What a great list, I'd make a mix of that and never get tired of it.

Steel2Velvet
Can you sense it? Ray Charles is restless right now. Seriously, a fine endeavor that points to the fact that for music-loving internet users the best decade for music was '65 - '75.
