invisible_r Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 I log in from work and from home, using firefox on both occasions. Yet when I log in from home, all the posts I read at work appear as new; this does not seem to happen when I log in at work. Is it a Mac/PC thing or just random?
Farin Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 I think it's because of the cookies. There are all the informations as to what post you've read etc. and since the cookies are stored localy on your PC your work PC doesn't know that you've already read them
invisible_r Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 well that seems reasonable, only I only have this problem at home. i.e. when I log in from work, it doesn't show me read posts as new. which is why I was wondering whether it's a mac/pc thing, as I have a mac at home and a pc at work
Tenacious_Peaches Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 I find the same thing happens to me when I'm at work. I occasionally have to move from my main computer to another. When I get back to my main computer, I find I have to log out and log back into SF in order to clear the posts I've read at the second one. I use IE in both places.
edna Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 I log in from work and from home, using firefox on both occasions. Yet when I log in from home, all the posts I read at work appear as new; this does not seem to happen when I log in at work. Is it a Mac/PC thing or just random? It happens to me too, Rachel. I go from my Mac to my husband´s PC constantly and that´s why I prefer to post from my computer (and use hubby´s for my job)
invisible_r Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 peaches, i think you have the solution I had to shut down my computer this morning, and when I came back from work, instead of just refreashing the forum page, i had to re-open it, and it seems that the posts i read at work did not appear as new
c_s_1987 Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I use multiple computers, and I don't have that problem, so it probably should update on all computers.
stevephillips79 Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) Hi, I also think that it is due to cookies. due to this when you browse your post the browser did not download the entire page insted of downloading fresh page they search the cookies and display the old contents, therefore you feel like you haven't read the post before. Thank you. Edited August 27, 2010 by Guest no links in signatures...
