SoulGirl
My favourite radio programme recently did a survey on what would be the best songs to play to your unborn baby. I don't think any of our regular Songfactors are expecting right now but I thought it would be a good idea to share it with ye and see if anyone else had further suggestions. I had a look to see if this thread had been done before but didn't find anything, so apologies if this is a repeat thread! From www.todayfm.com: There were a few also-rans that didn’t make it onto the list... Like John, who recommended Rage against the Machine, Grace from Mayo who thought the Twin Peaks theme tune would be good for your unborn baby and Martina who used the Emmerdale theme tune. But here's the final shakedown! 10. "Albatross" - Fleetwood Mac 9. "Star Star" - The Frames 8. "Gabriels Oboe" - Ennio Morricone 7. "No Surprises" - Radiohead 6. "One" - U2 5. "Secret Garden" - Bruce Springsteen 4. "Breathe" - Telepopmusik 3. Mozart (any gentle classic) 2. "Three little Birds" - Bob Marley 1. "Hallelujah" - Jeff Buckley
Tenacious_Peaches
I discovered this song when I was pregnant and included it on the CD I made for Ally when she was born. I cry every time I hear it...I even teared up a little just now reading the lyrics. The Things We've Handed Down Marc Cohn Don't know much about you Don't know who you are We've been doing fine without you But, we could only go so far Don't know why you chose us Were you watching from above Is there someone there that knows us Said we'd give you all our love Will you laugh just like your mother Will you sigh like your old man Will some things skip a generation Like I've heard they often can Are you a poet or a dancer A devil or a clown Or a strange new combination of The things we've handed down I wonder who you'll look like Will your hair fall down and curl Will you be a mama's boy Or daddy's little girl Will you be a sad reminder Of what's been lost along the way Maybe you can help me find her In the things you do and say And these things that we have given you They are not so easily found But you can thank us later For the things we've handed down You may not always be so grateful For the way that you were made Some feature of your father's That you'd gladly sell or trade And one day you may look at us And say that you were cursed But over time that line has been Extremely well rehearsed By our fathers, and their fathers In some old and distant town From places no one here remembers Come the things we've handed down
daslied
Ella loved Stevie Wonder and any blues for some reason whilst still in the womb. My wife said she was always super active when those things came on. Now she LOVES the Beatles. I did one thing right, I guess.
Sweet Jane 61
When I was about 5 months pregnant we went to see Joe Bonamassa, and Emily kicked up a storm!! It was great, and when he would stop playing, she stopped. So from then on I pretty much played Joe and any blues I had. And now she dances when I put in Joe, and I tell her she did that while she was in my tummy and she just smiles and pats my tummy. She also likes Bruce and John Mellencamp. That's my girl!! Elvish
My babe listened to these songs in utero http://forum.songfacts.com/showtopic.php?tid/82957/post/82957/hl/elvish+baby/#82957 I sang "In My Life" to him every night before I went to sleep (and still do...) He listened to a lot of blues (and was a huge SRV fan after he was born) and Beatles in utero as well.
