Pharoah Posted September 7, 2005 Author Report Posted September 7, 2005 Pharoah, I think you are mixing your decades a little. How so? Just the 70's and 80's. Ok, a little 60's Beatles and 2000's Coldplay, but mainly the 70's-80's
Pharoah Posted September 7, 2005 Author Report Posted September 7, 2005 what about the cure? -lullaby, close to me, boys don't cry, lovesong, forrest etc or is 80s dark wave not allowed? a good complilation covering "dark" music of the 80s is dark side of the 80s I looked through all the artists on there and only recognized Black Sabbath O_o
scott Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Just 'cuz you don't recognize an artist doesn't mean you shouldn't check it out, if I only stayed to the confines of what I knew and liked way back in the day.... I wouldn't be nearly as cool as I am now
Pharoah Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 Sureee Ok, I'll listen to ya. *Downloads YMCA* Talkin' 'bout YYYMMMCCCAAA!!!
scott Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Bleh, I'm tellin' you there are two songs that after you listen to them, your mind will be blown into space, Heroin by Velvet Underground and Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth, first off, those two songs will have you well on your way to appreciating a)good music and the avant-garde, and secondly it will show that even tho VU was from the 60s and perceived as 'old' by you, their recording techniques and sound still carries thru to today (Teenage Riot was recorded in '88, almost 20 years after Heroin)

(I'm talkin' about the SONGS! ) Cocaine is good I wanna re-phrase that... the SONG Cocaine is good And whats the Avant-Garde? O_o Edited September 8, 2005 by Guest Bored.
scott Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 No, Cocaine is a blues song, Heroin is very.... detached and modern. The best is the last couple minutes (it's about 8 minutes) where they start using this massive amount of feedback over the vocals.
Pharoah Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 Cocaine is a blues song!? Are we talkin' about the same Cocaine? I'm talkin' about the Cocaine by Eric Clapton I'm listenin' to Teenage Riot right now
scott Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Avant Garde is a rejection of the norm (that's the best way to put it) it exists in visual arts, music, fashion, and even every day conversation. It requires a person to use both their brain and their emotions to fully grasp it. It's really a school of thought I suppose, an approach to life.
scott Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Yes I'm talking about the Eric Clapton song, Eric Clapton has played loads and loads of blues. And Cocaine was originally written by blues artist J.J. Cale
Pharoah Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 Teenage Riot isn't good. The first bit of it is so quiet, the insturments cover it up. Listenin' to Heroin now. How old are you anyway, Scott?
scott Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Did you listen to all of Teenage Riot? I'm gonna have to say no 'cuz it's about 7 and a half minutes long, and if you only listened to the first part then you totally missed out on the textured guitars and spiraling feedback that resonates in the mid section. I'm 17
Pharoah Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 Heroin (which I listened to all of) is very... boring Verrrrry boring. I'll listen to the last few minutes of Teenage Riot now
scott Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Whatever, feedback is amazing, go listen to Queen I guess.
Pharoah Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 Whats your FAVOURITE song of all-time?
