I've heard that Jazz is the only music that originated in America. Would blues be considered a branch of jazz? or do you know where blues originated?

In a nutshell, blues mostly features simple 3-chord progressions. It grew out of African spirituals and worksongs of the Southern U.S. Blues is the forefather of Jazz. Jazz is like a son or nephew of the blues. Both originated here in the U.S.

Well....I would start with the song that is said to have set off Rock and Roll and that would be Rock Around the Clock. From there I would continue with:

Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who

Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin

Me and Booby McGee - Janis Joplin

Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix

Revolution - The Beatles

We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad

Freebird (live version) - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Layla - Derek And The Dominoes

Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones

Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

Hotel California - The Eagles

I would then finish off the CD with Queen's "The Show Must Go On".
