I remember a hit of the late 60s, lyrics were "Babe I got news for you, I think I got news for you... if you should find somebody new... I´ll set you free, yeah, free, yeah, free... or "Girl I got news for you"... anybody knows the name of the singer/band?

This is the closest I can find Edna, I'm afraid I've never heard the song (I don't believe)! ::

"I May Be Wrong, But I Won't Be Wrong Always"

1968 Chrys-A-Lee Music Ltd.

Tell me baby, tell what's on your mind

Tell me babe, tell what's on your mind

Love you babe, I hate your hurtin' kind

Baby, baby, I got news for you

Baby, baby, I got news for you

Love you babe, I don't know what to do

Baby, baby, what's on your worried mind ?

Baby, baby, what's on your worried mind ?

Love you darlin', I hate your hurtin' kind

Well look lonesome shinin' through the trees

shinin' through those trees

happens that babe thats up

Baby, baby, what's on your worried mind ?

I said, baby, baby, what's on your worried mind ?

Gonna take you baby, I love you - seem so kind

Love to hear my baby call my name

Love to hear my baby call my name

Don't know how - oh man, but she cause me pain

Tell me baby, tell what's on your mind

Tell me babe, tell what's on your mind

Love you babe, I hate your hurtin' kind

Baby, baby, what's gone wrong with you ?

Baby, baby, what's wrong - gone wrong with you ?

Love you babe, I don't know what to do

I may be wrong, but I won't be wrong always

Well I may be wrong, but I won't be wrong always

Gonna love you baby, love you in my own sweet way !

Edna, the title of the song was "Girl, I've Got News For You" and I believe the name of the group was Aesop's Fables. I think the song came out in 1967 or 1968. Though I do remember the song, I do not remember all of the lyrics. I did try finding it on the internet but was unable to. I hope this info helps.

edna....this is what I found at AMG All Music Guide. There is one of those compilation albums and it contains a song titled, "Girl, I've Got News For You" by a group called Cherokee. The time-frame fits your description.

Here's that link: Nuggets, Vol 5

And here's a brief bio on The Cherokees... Cherokees

Sorry, I haven't been able to find the lyrics.

Sorry to say, but those both could be covers! This seems to be a reliable source:

> Girl I've Got News For You (Shapiro/Puccetti) - The Mardi

> Gras, Map City MC 303: 1970, Produced by Loupop

> Productions) - Don't know anything about this other than

> it being written by Brad Shapiro and Robert Puccetti;

> Puccetti also wrote the transcendent "Heard You Went Away"

> by Proctor Amusement Co. on Scott 168 from June 1967 (and

> picked up as Laurie 3346 two months later).

Bobby Puccetti was the organ player and leader of the

Birdwatchers from South Florida. The Birdwatchers hit #1

on the local Miami charts with the original version of

"Girl I Got News For You" in 1966. It first came out on

Henry Stone's Scott label, and then was picked up by Mala.

Some of the Birdwatchers were backing Benny Latimore in

the studio when he covered "Girl I Got News For You" for

Dade in 1967. It was that version (Latimore's) that

inspired covers by Aesop's Fables (Atco), Cherokee (ABC),

and Iron Brigade Quickstep (Decca). The Mardi Gras

version came out four years after the Birdwatchers'

original, but was the best-selling version, reaching the

national top ten in France.

The Birdwatchers' producers, Steve Alaimo & Bradley

Shapiro, resurrected "Heard You Went Away" in 1969 while

recording Mercy's Warner Bros. album. That group's third

single is a soft pop version of the Proctor Amusement

Company tune, done very much in the style of their

better-known "Love Can Make You Happy".

I'm still hunting down those lyrics for you Edna! :D

Jimmy, Joe and Sue, I love you! You´re always doing a great job! Now I´ll be able to find that record in the radio files! Thanks again! It´s probably Cherokee´s version, Aesop Fables must be the first but as for the time I see Cherokee fits. Merci otra vez!!!!

edna...that Sue is something else isn't she? By the way, "Otra Vez" is one of my favorite songs performed by Vince Guaraldi.

Usted es agradable, como siempre!

Hello guys! You all seem very knowledgable on older rock songs. I´m looking for a song called something like what you just found, "Baby I got news for you" or "I got news for you". Ir was a hit around 1969 and the lyrics start with:

"He's my friend

why do you lie

You don't care

You don't even try

You're there

With another guy

Laughing at him

Baby I got news for you..."

(and so on. I don't remember more)

Anyone knows any info on this song?

I'll really appreciate any info or ideas you have.

Thank you.

FER, I believe it's this one, but I cannot track down the complete set of lyrics online. I hope this will suffice for now :) There was also a nice B-side on this LP called If I can't have you.

Mardi Gras - Girl, I've got news for you

(unfinished)

It?s not fair.............lead/live/leave your life

You don?t care, you don?t even try

You said that there?s another guy

Laughing at me

It?s not fair I?ve been through

I don?t care what you do

If you should find somebody to love you

I?ll set you free

Yeah, girl I?ve got news for you

I think I got news for you

????kind?????..

????????

Girl, I?ve got news for you

I think I got news for you

????.will find some guy

???????????.

La, la, la, la, la

It?s not fair I?ve been through

I don?t care what you do

You should find somebody to love you

I?ll set you free

Oh girl, Girl, I?ve got news

I think I?ll love you for good?

??..some guy

????.leave your life for me

???????..

Oh baby ,I think?????

I think you?re part of me

I?ll give you my love

Oh my love??..

Why don?t you keep it all

Sorry that there isn't a complete set, but I'm sure if you find the song, you'll be able to fill in the gaps :)

Hi, all,

This thread may be long-dead, so I don't know if anyone will get it.

My dad was in The Mardi Gras - that is one of their singles, of course...

The song is long out of print, though you can usually find 45rpm 7" singles on eBay and elsewhere on the net - usually in Europe.

I'm actually looking for the album, which seems to be impossible to find. ::

mja22, welcome!! Mardi Gras is a collector´s item now. That song was a huge hit in France and in South America, I have been trying to get it since 1969... there is still a spanish DJ playing it on his radio show. A great song and a great band! I am still listening to the singer´s voice in my head... and I know many people who loved this band.

Interestingly, I just picked up a Spanish copy of the single! I haven't seen the LP anywhere, though I have a copy of a copy on tape.

I think I'm going to see if I can get hold of the singer/drummer or the guitar player to ask if they have an extra copy (I haven't spoken to either of them for a while).

My father was the keyboardist/backup vocalist and sang lead on one of the album tracks. He passed away long ago ('83), and somehow any albums he had were lost...though I do have his keyboard and some other of his musical items.

I think this is close to the lyrics - I've actually never seen them written down...

Mardi Gras - Girl, I've got news for you

It's not fair, I need your light(?)

You don't care, you don't even try

You said that there's another guy

Laughing at me

It's not fair, I've been true

I don't care what you do

If you should find somebody new

I'll set you free

Oh, yeah...

Girl I've got news for you

I'll take no abuse from you

Someday you'll find some guy,

He won't care if you live or die, yeah..

Girl, I've got news for you

I'll take no abuse from you

Someday you'll find some guy,

He won't care if you live or die, yeah..

La, la, la, la, la, la

I'll set you free

Girl, I've got news for you

I'll take no abuse from you

Someday you'll find some guy,

He won't care if you live or die, yeah..

(Close, I hope!)
