OLD 55 Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 This is a popular feature in the Songfactors' Choice Top Ten Threads. I must pay credit to Farin for initiating this idea almost 2 1/2 years ago. Posting videos/audios here will give us a chance to air the songs we like, and to familiarize them with others who may not know them. I hope you'll support it !
OLD 55 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 This is one of my favorite doo-wop singles of the 50s. Silhouettes - The Rays (1957)
edna Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Cool... I'll watch and post some tonight when I'm back from work...
OLD 55 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 Onya edna. Please tell us if you like 'Silhouettes' too.
_Laurie_ Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 You know I was gonna ask you about doing this for the Top 40....Great Idea...gives more of a chance to listen to songs, especially the ones we don't know... Silhouettes is just okay for me 55, it would have to depend on the other noms...
_Laurie_ Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Boney Moronie ~ Larry Williams Lovey Dovey ~ Buddy Knox When I listened to this song, I noticed a very familiar line in it that was used in a #1 hit song in 1973....Hmmm what song was it?.....
MindCrime Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 I'd like to see this one join in.. The Wanderer - Dion (1961)
OLD 55 Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 Laurie, I think that would be Steve Miller's "The Joker". He 'borrowed' a few lines from Lovey Dovey. I like Buddy Knox, but not his version of that song. I used to play his version of Party Doll a lot. Bony Moronie, yes, depending on other nominations. Kenne, I like Dion. Let's try to get The Wanderer in !
edna Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I like them all. I'd vote for Silhouettes... I'll try to post some links for my noms...
OLD 55 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 Here's one of my favorite Patti Page songs, Old Cape Cod. This is the original 1957 multi voice tracked version. It's very difficult to find, as most of her 'Best Of' Albums have a later re-recorded version without the vocal overdubs.
Dappled Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Darryl, Silhouettes is one of my favourites too. Ãou know I'm a big 4 Seasons fan and and their version of Silhouettes was the first one I heard. The Seasons introduced me to doo-wop and made great covers of Little Darlin', Stay, Happy, Happy Birthday, Baby, Since I Don't Have You, 16 Candles and many more.
OLD 55 Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 I didn't know the 4 Seasons had done versions of all those oldies Lars. I've only got some of their singles and a couple of 'Best Of' Albums on vinyl. There's equipment advertised on the market now to record vinyl to CDs. I wonder if anyone here has tried it ?
OLD 55 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 R.I.P. MARY TRAVERS. + Blowin' In The Wind - Peter, Paul & Mary
_Laurie_ Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Stagger Lee ~ Llyod Price Poor Little Fool ~ Ricky Nelson I Only Have Eyes For You ~ Flamingos One Summer Night ~ Danleers Special Angel ~ Bobby Helms Alrighty...That's enough for now...
phil Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Silhouettes and The Wanderer should both be in.
phil Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 These songs should be in. Hound Dog - Big Momma Thorton Shake A Hand - Faye Adams Cry - Johnnie Ray
_Laurie_ Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Oh yeah,,Big Momma will get a vote from me!
OLD 55 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 Thanks Laurie and Phil. I'm pleased to say that The Wanderer, Stagger Lee and Bony Moronie are in this week's Top 40. Now for Silhouettes - The Rays.
OLD 55 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 Anyone else like this song ? Hello Stranger - Barbara Lewis (1963).
bazooka Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 shoo-bop, shoo-bop, my baby, oooh What's not to like?
phil Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 That's a great song. Definitely a Top 40 selection.
OLD 55 Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Onya Phil. Here's a catchy little song that entered the R & B Charts on 28 December, 1963. Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um - Major Lance
