Country Songs Needed

_Laurie_

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who is going through a tough time right now. She loves the more recent country music, which I really don't listen to that much, or know too much about. I'd like to make her a cd of some uplifting country tunes, so I'll need your help....Thanks.

Oh, Laurie, you've come to the right place. :)

Two off the top of my head that always ALWAYS put a smile on my face...

"It's A Great Day To Be Alive"

Travis Tritt

I got rice cookin' in the microwave

Got a three day beard I don't plan to shave

And it's a goofy thing but I just gotta say, hey

I'm doin' alright

Yeah I think I'll make me some homemade soup

I'm feelin' pretty good and that's the truth

It's neither drink nor drug induced, no

I'm just doin' alright

And it's a great day to be alive

I know the sun's still shinin'

When I close my eyes

There's some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can't everyday be just this good

It's been 15 years since I left home

And said good luck to every seed I'd sown

gave it my best and then I left it alone

I hope they're doin' alright

Now I look in teh mirror and what do I see

A lone wolf there starin' back at me

Long in the tooth but harmless as can be

Lord I guess he's doin' alright

And it's a great day to be alive

I know the sun's still shinin'

When I close my eyes

There's some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can't everyday be just this good

Sometimes it lonely, sometimes it's only me

And the shadows that fill this room

Sometimes I'm fallin', desperately callin'

Howlin' at the moon, ah-ooh

Well I might go get me a new tattoo

Or take my old Harley for a three day cruise

Might even grow me a Fu Man Chu

And it's a great day to be alive

I know the sun's still shinin'

When I close my eyes

There's some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can't everyday be just this good

It's a great day to be alive

I know the sun's still shinin'

When I close my eyes

There's some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can't everyday be just this good

"Just Another Day In Paradise"

Phil Vassar

The kids screaming, phone ringing

Dog barking at the mailman bringing

That stack of bills - overdue

Good morning baby, how are you?

Got a half hour, quick shower

Take a drink of milk but the milk's gone sour

My funny face makes you laugh

Twist the top on and I put it back

There goes the washing machine

Baby, don't kick it.

I promise I'll fix it

Long about a million other things

Well, it's ok. It's so nice

It's just another day in paradise

Well, there's no place that

I'd rather be

Well, it's two hearts

And one dream

I wouldn't trade it for anything

And I ask the Lord every night

For just another day in paradise

Friday, you're late

Guess we'll never make our dinner date

At the restaurant you start to cry

Baby, we'll just improvise

Well, plan B looks like

Dominoes' pizza in the candle light

Then we'll tippy toe to our room

Make a little love that's overdue

But somebody had a bad dream

Mama and daddy

Can me and my teddy

Come in to sleep in between?

Yeah it's ok. It's so nice.

It's just another day in paradise.

Well, there's no place that

I'd rather be

Well, it's two hearts

And one dream

I wouldn't trade it for anything

And I ask the Lord every night

For just another day in paradise

Well, it's ok. It's so nice.

It's just another day in paradise.

Well, there's no place that

I'd rather be

Two hearts

And one dream

I wouldn't trade it for anything

And I ask the Lord every night

For just another day in paradise

For just another day in paradise

Well, it's the kids screaming. The phone ringing

Just another day

Well, it's Friday. You're late

Oh yeah, it's just another day in paradise

I will think of some more and get right back with you. :)

"Loco"

David Lee Murphy

Little hula girls on the shot glass

All we need's a little salt & lime

We can plug in the hot pepper lights and pretend

That we're livin' on Key West time

I can run to the store and get some charcoal

Buy a tiki torch and fire up the grill

The whole town wants to know when I'm gonna grow up

But you know I never will

CHORUS

Yeah I might be a little bit loco

But it keeps me from losin' my mind

Oh but half insane that's ok

Babe a little bit crazy's alright

Nothin' wrong with a little excitement

No it makes me forget about work

'Cause I live by the rule that everything's cool

Just as long as nobody gets hurt

Hey I feel like I'm on vacation

Honey you say the word and we'll go

'Cause you're getting to me in those cut off jeans

And that T-shirt from Sloppy Joes

CHORUS

Hey I might be a little bit loco

But it keeps me from losing my mind

Oh but half insane that's ok

Babe a little bit crazy's alright

Yeah the deep end might be so close

Oh that I'm hangin' on for dear life

Yeah I might be a little bit loco baby

But a little bit crazy's alright

"That's All I Know"

Jason Michael Carroll

I think honesty is right, think lying is wrong.

I think Willy and Haggard wrote some awful good songs.

I think God rides around with the radio on, in a ragged ole truck just like mine.

I don't think it's as bad as the newspaper says.

I think Vegas is rigged, But then I wouldn't bet on these theories and thoughts rollin' round in my head,

Cuz they change and they turn on a dime.

Chorus:

But I know there's a sun and at night there's a moon.

I get cold in December and sunburnt in June.

This ole world keeps turnin'

Time it ain't movin, it's slow!

There's a woman that loves me like nobody can.

She's my reason for livin', the reason I am

the luckiest man in the world.

And that's all I know.

I think taxes are high, think politics stink.

But old Unlce Sam don't give a damn what I think.

And I don't believe worms aughta be in a drink,

But I swallowed once on a dare.

Think there's only one Beatles and Elvis is dead.

And I don't believe half of the stuff we been feed,

from the spoons in the hands of those ole talkin' heads

I'm not even sure that I care.

I've got a family that loves me like nobody can.

They're my reason for livin', the reason I am

the luckiest man in the world

I'm the luckiest man in the world!

And that's all I know.

That's all I know

That's all I know!!

"What About Now"

Lonestar

The sign in the window said for sale or trade

On the last remaining dinosaur Detroit made

Seven hundred dollars was a heck of a deal

For a four hundred horsepower jukebox on wheels

And that road rolls out like a welcome mat

I don't know where it goes but it beats where we're at

We always said someday, somehow

We were gonna get away, gonna blow this town

What about now, how 'bout tonight

Baby for once let's don't think twice

Let's take that spin that never ends

That we've been talking about

What about now, why should we wait

We can chase these dreams down the interstate

And be long gone 'fore the world moves on and makes another round

What about now

We've been puttin' this off baby long enough

Just give me the word, and we'll be kickin' up dust

We both know it's just a matter of time

'Til our hearts start racin' for that county line

What about now, how 'bout tonight

Baby for once let's don't think twice

Let's take that spin that never ends

That we've been talking about

What about now, why should we wait

We can chase these dreams down the interstate

And be long gone 'fore the world moves on and makes another round

What about now

We could hang around this town forever making plans

But there won't ever be a better time to take this chance

What about now, how 'bout tonight

Baby for once let's don't think twice

Let's take that spin that never ends

That we've been talking about

What about now, why should we wait

We can chase these dreams down the interstate

And be long gone 'fore the world moves on and makes another round

What about now

What about now

"Fast Cars and Freedom"

Rascal Flatts

Starin' at you takin' off your makeup

Wondering why you even put it on

I know you think you do but baby you don't need it

Wish that you could see what I see it when it's gone

I see a dust trail following an old red Nova

Baby blue eyes, your head on my shoulder

[Chorus:]

Wait, baby don't move, right there it is

T-shirt hanging off a Dogwood Branch

That river was cold but we gave love a chance

Yeah, yeah for me

You don't look a day over Fast Cars and Freedom

That sunset river bank first time feeling

Yeah, smile and shake your head as if you don't believe me

I'll just sit right here and let you take me back

I'm on that gravel road, look at me

On my way to pick you up you're standing on the front porch

Looking just like that remember that

I see a dust trail following an old red Nova

Baby blue eyes, your head on my shoulder

[Chorus]

I see a dust trail following an old red Nova

Baby blue eyes, your head on my shoulder

You don't look a day over Fast Cars and Freedom

That sunset river bank first time feeling

"Passenger Seat"

SheDaisy

Passenger side, I slide on in.

Vinyl seats soft from the heat of the sun.

Chewin' on a Slim Jim, can't stop thinkin' bout him.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's the one.

Mmm, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's the one.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, life's so sweet right here in the passenger seat.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, yeah, life's so sweet.

When I look to my left see his suntanned hands,

His muddy river hair and his thousand acre plans.

I'm all shook up like a quarter in a can.

Ain't life sweet in the passenger seat, yeah.

I daydream of me in a cold cotton pillow,

And the feel of his skin.

The window sill smiles and before I know it,

I'm miles away a-sittin' next to him.

Miles away a-sittin' next to him.

Ain't life sweet, yeah.

Instrumental break.

Shiftin' those gears, baby, 1, 2, 3.

Then he shifts those ocean eyes back to me.

Can't imagine a moment any better than this:

Then we kiss.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, life's so sweet right here in the passenger seat.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, yeah, life's so sweet.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, life's so sweet right here in the passenger seat.

Ooh, ooh, oh yeah, life's so sweet, it's...

Life's so sweet, it's....

Life's so sweet, it's...

So sweet in the passenger seat.

Life's so, life's so, life's so sweet,

Right here.

"Suds In The Bucket"

Sara Evans

She was in the backyard - they say it was a little past nine

When her prince pulled up - a white pickup truck

Her folks shoulda seen it comin' - it was only just a matter of time

Plenty old enough - and you can't stop love

She stuck a note on the screen door - "sorry but I got to go"

That was all she wrote - her mama's heart was broke

That was all she wrote - so the story goes

Now her daddy's in the kitchen - starin' out the window

Scratchin' and a rackin' his brains

How could 18 years just up and walk away

Our little pony-tailed girl growed up to be a woman

Now she's gone in the blink of an eye

She left the suds in the bucket

And the clothes hangin' out on the line

Now don't you wonder what the preacher's gonna preach about Sunday morn

Nothin' quite like this has happened here before

Well he must have been a looker - smooth talkin' son of a gun

For such a grounded girl - to just up and run

Course you can't fence time - and you can't stop love

Now all the biddy's in the beauty shop gossip goin' non-stop

Sippin' on pink lemonade

How could 18 years just up and walk away

Our little pony-tailed girl growed up to be a woman

Now she's gone in the blink of an eye

She left the suds in the bucket

And the clothes hangin' out on the line

She's got her pretty little bare feet hangin' out the window

And they're headin' up to Vegas tonight

How could 18 years just up and walk away

Our little pony-tailed girl growed up to be a woman

Now she's gone in the blink of an eye

She left the suds in the bucket

And the clothes hangin' out on the line

"Mayberry"

Rascal Flatts

Sometimes it feels like this world is spinning faster

Than it did in the old days

So naturally we have more natural disasters

From the strain of a fast pace

Sunday was the day of rest

Now its one more day for progress

And we can't slow down

Cause more is best

It's all an endless process

Well I miss Mayberry

Sitting on the porch drinking ice cold Cherry --- Coke

Where everything is black & white

Picking on a Six String

Where people pass by and you call them by their first name

Watching the clouds roll by

bye bye

Sometimes I can hear this old earth shouting

Through the trees as the wind blows

Thats when I climb up here on this mountain

To look through God's window

Now I can't fly

But I've got two feet

To get me high up here

Above the noise and city streets

My worries disappear

Well I miss Mayberry

Sitting on the porch drinking ice cold Cherry --- Coke

Where everything is black & white

Picking on a Six String

Where people pass by and you call them by their first name

Watching the clouds roll by

bye bye

Sometimes I dream I'm driving down an old dirt road

Not even listed on the map

I pass a dad and son carrying a fishing pole

But I always wake up everytime I try to turn back

Well I miss Mayberry

Sitting on the porch drinking ice cold Cherry Coke

Where everything is black & white

Picking on a Six String

Where people pass by and you call them by their first name

Watching the clouds roll by

bye bye

"If I Fall"

Dixie Chicks

Was it the pull of the moon now baby

That led you to my door

You say the night's got you acting crazy

I think it's something more

I never felt the Earth move honey

Until you shook my tree

Nobody runs from the law now baby

Of love and gravity It pulls you so strong

Baby you gotta hold on

If I fall you're going down with me

You're going down with me baby if I fall

You can't take back every little chill you give me

You're going down with me baby heart and all

Ooh..yeah

We're hanging right on the edge now baby

The wind is getting stronger

We're hanging on by a thread now honey

We can't hold on much longer

It's a long way down but it's too late

If I fall you're going down with me

You're going down with me baby if I fall

You can't take back every little chill you give me

You're going down with me baby heart and all

Ooh baby I couldn't get any higher

This time I'm willing to dance on the wire

If I fall...If I fall

'Cause if I fall you're going down with me

You're going down with me baby if I fall

You can't take back every little chill you gave me

You're going down with me baby heart and all

If I fall...If I fall...Ooh yeah

"My Give A Damn's Busted"

Jo Dee Messina

Well, you filled up my head with so many lies.

You twisted my heart till somethin' snapped inside.

I'd like to give it one more try,

But my give-a-damn's busted.

You can crawl back home, say you were wrong;

Stand out in the yard and cry all night long.

Well, go ahead and water the lawn:

My give-a-damn's busted.

I really wanna care.

I wanna feel somethin'.

Let me dig a little deeper:.

No, sorry: nothin'.

You can say you've got issues, you can say you're a victim.

It's all your parents fault, after all you didn't pick 'em.

Maybe somebody else has got time to listen:

My give-a-damn's busted.

Well, your therapist says it was all a mistake:

A product of the Prozac an' your co-dependent ways.

So who's your enabler these days?

My give-a-damn's busted.

I really wanna care.

I wanna feel somethin'.

Let me dig a little deeper:.

No, still nothin'.

It's a desperate situation, no tellin' what you'll do.

If I don't forgive you, you say your life is through.

C'mon, gimme somethin' I can use:

My give-a-damn's busted.

Well, I really wanna care.

I wanna feel somethin'.

Let me dig a little deeper:

No, I'm sorry.

Just nothin', no.

You've really done it this time, ha, ha.

My give-a-damn's busted.

Okay, I'll give someone else a chance. ;)

Hey, thanks Shawna. Howsabout:

Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks

Blame it all on my roots,

I showed up in boots,

And ruined your black tie affair.

The last one to know,

The last one to show,

I was the last one you tought you'd see there.

And I saw a surprise,

And the fear in his eyes,

When I took his glass of champange,

I toasted you,

Said honey we may be through,

But you'll never hear me complain,

(Chorus)

'Cause I got friends in low places,

Where the Whiskey drowns,

And the Beer chases my blues away,

But I'll be okay,

Now I'm not big on social graces,

Think I'll slip on down to the oasis,

Oh I got friends,

In low places.

I guess I was wrong I just don't belong

but then I've been there before, everything's alright

I'll just say goodnight and I'll show myself to the door

Hey I didn't mean to cause a big scene just give me an

hour and then, I'll be as high as that Ivory Tower and you'll

never know,

Chorus

I guess I was wrong I just don't belong

but then I've been there before, everythings alright

I'll just say goodnight and I'll show myself to the door

Hey I didn't mean to cause a big scene just wait 'til I finish this glass

Then, sweet little lady I'll head back to the bar (haha) and you can kiss my ass

Chorus

Usually makes me smile a little.

Sorry about your friend Laur. I love this one because it's sweet and full of hope~

Lee Ann Womack~I Hope You Dance Lyrics

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder

You get your fill to eat

But always keep that hunger

May you never take one single breath for granted

God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small

When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance

Never settle for the path of least resistance

Living might mean taking chances

But they're worth taking

Lovin' might be a mistake

But it's worth making

Don't let some hell bent heart

Leave you bitter

When you come close to selling out

Reconsider

Give the heavens above

More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance

(Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance

(Rolling us along)

I hope you dance

(Tell me who)

I hope you dance

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small

When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance

(Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance

(Rolling us along)

I hope you dance

(Tell me who)

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

I hope you dance

(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)

I hope you dance

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

(Where those years have gone)

From up on Bluegrass mountain:

"The One You Lean On" by Dan Tyminski

There’s a man who lives to be faithful and true

He stands in love’s purest arc

Take his hand as you walk through the joy and the pain

The one who is loved will be lost to you

I know life gets harder the farther we go

Cause our hopes and dreams tend to fade

In the light of hope from a far away land

The voice who is loved softly calls to me

=CHORUS=

I’ll be with you when all others turn away

I’ll be with you though the heart seems to say

Sorrow breaks me and I can’t see the light of day

And I’ll be the one you lean on

When sorrow breaks you and you can’t see the light of day

Then I’ll be the one you lean on

And, for an instrumental jam that will put you in your dancing shoes, "Knock Knock!" chases the Blues into the next county.
