OLD 55
Thanks Kenne and Laurie. Can you please give us your other 3 'New' nominations so we can see what to support Laurie. If we want to get a few more new entries into the Chart, we are going to have to get behind a few songs each week. 15 points is usually enough to make it. Dappled
What songs were better, the covers or the originals? Here's The Golden Oldies top 40 Covers! (Myself, I'd choose the originals anytime!)
OLD 55
I haven't had time to look at them all yet, but it appears that Lars has found Cover Versions of most of the songs in our current Top 40. Should be well worth a listen. Thanks Lars. That must have taken a lot of time and effort.
_Laurie_
I tend to like the originals better....but some of those covers aren't too bad at all...I really like the Searchers cover of Love Potion #9...
OLD 55
Yes, I like it better too. The Clovers' original was never a Hit here. Also, Little Willie John's original 1956 R&B version of Fever is great. But so is Peggy Lee's Jazz version, with the clever extra verses. Elvis' version is OK too. He knew which songs to cover - often keeping virtually the same arrangements. No more votes for me to count ? Ho hum.
bazooka
I posted these links in the "Great Covers" thread quite a while back. [big]Fever[/big] [smaller] _ the original by [/smaller]Little Wille John The definitive version by Peggy Lee I like the Neville Brothers take. Elvis made an attempt. Beyoncé shouldn't have bothered. Michael Bublé puts it in an unconvincing lounge singer style. Madonna doesn't add much except a comic book video. Chaka Khan takes a while but gets cookin'. Here's a checklist of some other players (The Doors, Dylan, James Brown, Grateful Dead, etc. etc.) Now, looks like only Elvis and Beyoncé survived the YouTube busts !
