on 26th March 2006 the first Top Ten was started...

almost 2 years, 99 Top Tens, and 991 songs* later we want to share with you some interesting facts, cool numbers, and other fascinating tidbits of information you maybe didn't even think about :)

also we want to encourage you to share your view, thoughts and feelings about the past Top Tens :)

now to start this off, a little quiz:

What was the first ever #1?

In all the whole time, did we have more 60s or 70s songs in the list?

What about 50s or 00s?

What member(s) participated in every one of the Tens?

What song song was the first #1 by a female solo artist?

the answers to that, and much, much more will follow soon

:headphones:

[smaller]* more about that later[/smaller]

All I want to know is: am I still "bottom of the league", in terms of successful nominations?

Statisticians: go to it!

Correct, sweety! and you get a star in the book of love!

Another trivia question: Which 3 songs made the Top Ten after 5 nominations (a record)? Don't peek!

You peeked!! Don Henley's Boys of Summer is one of them! Which are the other two??

I didn't cheat on any of these. No, really. :)

[spoilera:6]Boys Of Summer - Don Henley

Stay With Me - The Faces

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division

I asked a similar question to this once before, so I think I might have remembered the answers. [/spoilera]

New question: Which band/artist has only had three songs in Top Tens, two of which were number one?

"My Sharona"

More 60s or 70s songs?

60s

aaaaaaaannd... wrong again :shades:

here are the number of songs from each decade:

All in all we had 991 songs in the Top Ten

(waitaminute... isn't 99 x 10 = 990? )

why yes, it is :) thanks for asking

but in Top Ten #8 we didn't have a Top Ten, but a Top Eleven

and here now the splitting to decades of all 991 songs :)

50s: 24 (2.4%)

60s: 370 (37.3%)

70s: 424 (42.8%)

80s: 87 (8.8%)

90s: 75 (7.6%)

00s: 11 (1.1%)

54 more 70s songs than 60s

and 13 more 50s than 00s

who would have thought? ;)

Chuck Berry, but 3 other songs of his nearly made it!

We have a winner!

Next I'll ask the opposite question: Name two bands/artists who have featured in the Top Tens ten or more times without getting to number one.

(If I counted correctly, there is four in total).

For the record, I have participated in either every or almost every Top Ten since I first joined, in TT #8. There are a few tens in which I have nominated and not voted or vice versa.

Posted

I don't know how but I managed to miss the first 17 tens completely... I don't even remember seeing them before that. :P But then I joined for #18!

They were in the Fun & Games thread...

I participated from #2 onward, missing one or two here or there. But this certainly was a great endeavor that now has built memories for a lot of people. All thanks to Old 55.

We can all guess which group has the most number ones, but which (billed as a) solo act has the most number ones?

Thanks Fintan. :)

That's the sort of thing I'm interested in - history and milestones of the Top Ten.

I'll have a go at Chris' question. I don't think Elton John nor Queen have ever had a #1, and I'm sure they would have had more than ten entries each. And also Ron's (S2V). I'll say Bob Dylan. Now I'm going into "Every Song...." to check.
