bluesboy
In Luis Rey's book Led Zeppelin Live: An Illustrated Exploration of Underground Tapes he says... "Officially released on Houses Of The Holy in March 1973 and The Song Remains The Same in October 1976. This piece marked the band's first use of a Mellotron onstage, giving them a new dimension and versatility. Played for the first time live during the 1972 Japanese tour as the number following The Song Remains The Same and remaining there until the last concert of 1975. Absent in 1977, it is played again continuously from the Knebworth warm-ups to the final concert in Berlin 1980. There is also a 'skeleton' version of the piece, a rehearsal by Jimmy Page alone on acoustic guitar." recent Rain Song from unplugged

Tuning to DGCGCD during a live performance would be rather time consuming and annoying. I can play this, usually with several mistakes, on either of my two guitars (one Squire Stratocaster, one Yamaha acoustic). It is probably my favourite song, so naturally I had to learn it.
