babyteen
There's this song that I heard when I was in first grade, when I once borrowed a copy of "Reading Rainbow Songs" from the library at Westmoreland Elementary School in Eugene, Oregon. The song was "Ancient Places, Sacred Lands", which I just found out is sung by Phoebe Snow. I was wondering, does anyone have any possible suggestions of where I can find a downloadable version of that song? Or if anyone has it, can they post it on YouSendIt for me? I would kindly appreciate it. Edited November 13, 2007 by Guest title
edna
here´s the youtube clip: I guess somebody will post an audio link, better than youtube. If not, you can convert the youtube link into an mp3 here: www.vixy.net though the sound isn´t stereo and the quality isn´t the best.
babyteen
I actually have the video version, and it's not actually the full-length version of the song. I know the full-length version is found on an album called "Reading Rainbow Songs". Are you familiar with that album?
edna
Nope. So let´s wait, there s probably someone who´ll post the audio link...
babyteen
I'm surprised that in all the ways I've searched, all the keywords I've typed, and all the places that you could possibly find downloadable stuff, it hasn't showed up. I wonder if there's a website or software with downloadable music, that might have this song? To me, it seems to be a rare find.
edna
I have an old mac and my browser won´t access most of the sites, of course, it doesn´t download music... So we´ll have to be patient... I´m sure someone will show up soon with a solution...
Jim in Pa
I've had no luck on a download link for this either. But I did find a 'Best of Reading rainbow' released in 02 or 03. found it at alltheweb.com key words/ ancient places, sacred lands. no audio download, but the production seems to be available for a price. From all searching I did, it seems that the song (in its full length version) only excists on some studio master tape, and was never used in whole. But I cant be sure about that... babyteen
I wonder if ITunes might have the full-length recording of this song? Has anyone searched there?
The Seeker
How long is the full-length version?
babyteen
Unfortunately, I can't remember how long the full length version is, since I haven't heard it in a long time. However, if I could take an educated guess, it's probably 3 minutes, maybe a little longer.

Is it possible to find this recording on CD? Or is it only available on Cassette Tape?

babyteen
No, actually the album I'm looking for is "Reading Rainbow Songs". This is the original album which the song "Ancient Places, Sacred Lands" is on. It was recorded and released in 1984. The company that released it is Caedmon Records. Earth-Angel
No, actually the song you are originally asking for is included in the album that Lucky very kindly researched and provided a link to " 2. Ancient Places, Sacred Lands Come sit beside me, and hear a story Of long ago when the people lived free And named the waters, and all the places High and low There was a plain they called Chicago It meant a place where strong things grow And Kentucky meant the land Of green meadows Refrain: Ancient Places, Sacred Lands Names we know so well But no one understands Mississippi means big river And Miami means great water Arizona means a place where Small springs flow (Repeat Refrain to end) Go Back to Reading Rainbow's Greatest Hits . . ." Thank you Lucky for looking for the song and providing a link, it seems to be the correct one based on the lyrics from the link You're a star! Lucky
Albeit a tarnished one? Thanks Sue, it seemed to be the correct one to me.
Earth-Angel
And $14.95 is not too expensive, is it? I have looked all over and can't find a download of this song on its own, so it looks like you will need to settle for the album off the link Thanks again Lucky! babyteen
I know for sure that the original album this song is on was "Reading Rainbow Songs". Here's the link. http://www.wriukids.org/wish/readingrainbowsongs.html
The Seeker
That doesn't mean it's never been released elsewhere.
Earth-Angel
I believe Lucky and The Seeker are correct - the song was originally released on "Reading Rainbow Songs", but as it is so popular and matches the criteria in every way, it is also present on "Reading Rainbow's Greatest Hits". Case solved, thanks to Detective Lucky
