  1. Stevie G wasn't bad... I agree though, its a good job we have an 'easy' tie in the next round...
  2. Well Farin, looks like the clash of the titans has been avoided (for now). Probably a good thing with Owen out...
  3. Edna, I think you know... Nothing inspiring tonight, except the South Korean fans. The Aussies did well mind...
  4. Things are beginning to clarify. With 'the hand of God' in the stadium, the Argentinians are showing just why they may well win it. For the semis I predict the Argies, England (well, I have to...), Ghana and either Spain or Portugal.
  5. No, you had your curtains open again... lol
  6. Gisela!!! Arrogance? The English football fan? Surely not... Actually the average football fan is ok on his/her own, but with a bit of lager and sunshine plus a lot of stereotyping to live up to, it all becomes very sad... I like a drink when watching the beautiful game in the pub, but never remove my shirt, sing simple songs and bait the fuzz... As for Kevin's assertion that England have had their day, I must disagree. Alright, we are lacking a bit up front right now, but as soon as Shrek (Wayne Rooney) heals we will be rampant... We have an annoying habit of not being able to put so called inferior teams away, plus getting into penalty shootouts mit dem chermans... If we can avoid Herr Klinsman and his team of one man and no defence (sorry Farin), we could go all the way this time. Trouble is, the way the groups are we will almost certainly meet them sooner or later... If we get to the semis we can beat anybody on our day. A final against Argentina or Brazil would be good.
  7. Sorry Katie - I don't look too far back in posts nowadays...
  8. No mention of the Hoodoo Gurus? I began listening to this band after a play on John Peel many years ago, and return to the baggy-shirted wonders periodically for a lift even now...
  9. And another thing.... "urry up 'airy camel" is far more hummable than most songs of the gendre, Sex Pistols included....
  10. Of course, Walter Mitty could be a rational, all-knowing incarnation of Mr Wagermann...
  11. I think that last post should be in Random Thoughts....
  12. What's a 'hiney'? Is it American for a downstairs body part?
  13. I thought that was very well put, Raul. I've never read a defence of the mysterious art of rap before, and what you wrote makes sense... BF, next you'll be telling us you never danced to 'Come on Eileen' in Farrahs, Pods and a burgundy tank top...
  14. If I had to choose just one Artist's catalogue to take to a desert island (with generator, Hifi, fridge etc) it would probably have to be Tim Buckley. I'd prefer the CDs to just the catalogue though, as paper tends to clog the slot...
  15. I don't know much about the 'spirit of punk' as I feel it was/is just a continuation of youthful rebellion evident from the first time Barney Rubble snuck out of the cave and tagged a mastadon. I just wish to congratulate Batman on his discovery of one of the seminal albums of the late 70s. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen SLF. I bet BF and myself rubbed beer-stained shoulders in the Leeds Irish Club on occasions without knowing it, whilst listening to the great Jake Burns and his sus-sus-sus-sus-sus-sus-suspect device...
  16. That'll be the 'Wortley Cereal Killer' again...
  17. A peeved pike? A miffed mullett? ...or what about a fin-hooked eel with a chainsaw?
  18. I've never understood how anybody could die in a 'fishing accident'. A boating accident whilst fishing perhaps... but not the act of holding a rod and dreaming you were somewhere else....
  19. You could never be upstaged, oh prosemeister... World history depends upon the author naturally... I'd rather not belive the Hollywood version of events, thats all... lol
  20. Uhhhgggg... Hcchhhhhh... Ptiiiiingggg.... You talkin' to me, woman?
  21. Every body knows the settlers didn't actually win a war. The British got bored on the one hand, and had more important issues to resolve with those dastardly Frenchies elsewhere in the world on the other... You Americans and your Americocentric view of world history.... Tee hee!
  22. I had heard the rumour... As if Chelsea really need to strengthen the squad!!! Plenty of scope for the tabloid headline writers if he makes a mistake though... lol What I'd love to see in the English game instead is another Klinsman, if such a player exists...
  23. I am going to buck the trend by saying that we need more disagreement here - and whether the post was meant in seriousness or not it certainly provoked a response. Its what maintains interest and should be encoraged IMO. Please don't spit the dummy just yet!
