  2. That's one of my favorites. Native American Soul. Here's one One Hit I heard accidentally the other day. It is not such a favorite, but it will be remembered for the bizarre vocal styling and pronunciation. I Love The Nightlife by Alicia Bridges I want to go where the people dance. I want some Axx-Shownn (action)... I want to live! AXX-SHOWNN... I got so much to give. I want to give it. I want to get some too. Oh, I ... Ohhh I ... I love the nightlife, I got to boogie On the disco 'round
  3. From the Beatles (Getting Better): I used to get mad at my school The teachers who taught me weren't cool You're holding me down, turning me round Filling me up with your rules I've got to admit it's getting better A little better all the time I have to admit it's getting better It's getting better since you've been mine And "the skies are not cloudy all day" for the Beach Boys (Be True To Your School): When some loud braggart tries to put me down And says his school is great I tell him right away Now what?s the matter buddy Ain?t you heard of my school It?s number one in the state I got a letterman?s sweater With a letter in front I got for football and track I?m proud to wear it now When I cruise around The other parts of the town I got a decal in back On Friday we?ll be jacked up on the football game And I?ll be ready to fight We?re gonna smash ?em now My girl will be working on her pom-poms now And she?ll be yelling tonight So be true to your school now Just like you would to your girl or guy Be true to your school now And let your colors fly Be true to your school Rah rah rah be true to your school Rah rah rah be true to your school Rah rah rah be true to your school Rah rah rah be true to your school
  4. Apparently, this is the list we get to choose from (according to fiftiesweb.com): 9/9/1956 "Don't Be Cruel," "Hound Dog," "Reddy Teddy" and "Love Me Tender." 10/28/1956 "Don't Be Cruel," "Love Me Tender" and "Hound Dog." 1/6/1957 This is the only "above the waist" performance "Hound Dog," "Love Me Tender," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Don't Be Cruel," "Peace in the Valley" "Too Much" and "When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again." Another interesting footnote: "In 1956 Sullivan was severly injured in a head on car crash and missed five Sundays of shows. Guest hosts were Phil Silvers, Patti Page, Kirk Douglas, Red Skelton and Charles Laughton. And so it was that Laughton introduced Elvis on his first Sullivan appearance. Although that was not Elvis' introduction to TV as he had appeared on the Dorsey Brothers, Milton Berle and the Steve Allen Shows."
  5. I know this is not a very good match but it does fit in a couple of ways. Virgin by Spandau Ballet (1989) "We are virgin Your skin is new and your eyes are wide"
  6. To score high points: Post a picture of El Chupacabra, or a spork, an atomic explosion, Hammer pants or a bunny balancing a pancake on his head. To Win: Post a picture of Bo Diddley.
  7. The awesome power of Google: The Orb song S.A.L.T. on "Orblivion" (1997) consists of a somewhat paranoid sermon/rant (from the film Naked) about the Biblical revelation of the apocalypse, Chernobyl, barcodes, planetary alignment, and the future evolution of humanity into "beings of pure energy", all set to music. Naked Directed by Mike Leigh (1993) There is barely a symphathetic character aside from security guard Brian (Peter Wight). Leigh's script, mostly improvised by the actors, remains one of the most intelligent, stark and quotable in film history.
  8. Welcome to Songfacts, kid. (>) Here's what some other people thought a while back and there's another bonanza (<) of one hit favs over here.
  9. Wah-Wah You've given me a wah-wah And I'm thinking of you And all the things that we used to do Wah-wah, wah-wah Oh, you don't see me crying Oh, you don't hear me sighing Wah-wah I don't need no wah-wah And I know how sweet life can be If I keep myself free from the wah-wah ~ George Harrison from All Things Must Pass
  10. Oye Como Va by Santana Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straits
  11. Jingo by Santana El favorito está conforme a cambio sin el aviso.
  12. Depending on the source you choose, Randy Newman's The Story Of A Rock And Roll Band (1979) is either "an affectionate tribute to the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)" or a "mean-spirited mockery" and "spoof of their style". Anyway, years later, Jeff Lynne did background vocals and played keyboards, guitars & bass on Newman's "Land of Dreams" album (1988) and was producer of his song Falling In Love. The Story Of A Rock And Roll Band They were six fine English boys Who knew each other in Birmingham They bought a drum and guitar Started a rock-roll band And Johnny played little violin And Bobby Joe played the big violin The one that stands on the floor They were all in the rock-roll band Their first song sounded like this Please get me a witness Please get me a witness Right off, they needed a name Someone said, "How 'bout the Renegades ?" Johnny said, "Well I don't know. I prefer E.L.O." I love their "Mr. Blue Skies" Almost my favorite is "Turn to Stone" And how 'bout "Telephone Line"? I love that E.L.O.
  13. Them Changes (original version) by Buddy Miles Express Favorite is subject to change without notice.
  14. From my 'Today In Music History' post on 12/30/2004:
  15. As a public service, here's what I remember from UncleJoe's previous posts favorite songs: Who Are You?, Return To Me, Outasight, She's Not There. favorite artists: Question Mark and The Mysterians, Stealer's Wheel, Faith No More. favorite movies: Gone With The Wind, The Vanishing, Eraser, Blank Slate. favorite TV shows: Unsolved Mysteries, Whose Line Is It Anyway, X Files. Just kidding, Joe. A real bummer that your exceptional contributions have disappeared. We hope they can be restored in short order.
  16. I immediately thought of Eighteen Yellow Roses by Bobby Darin (<), but it doesn't really fit the story. I've never been much into country, but I think I vaguely remember a similar song that is a better match for your scenario.
  17. Did you check the Rhino link ? Bill Kirchen was the guitarist on the Commander Cody version, but he also played the live eight-minute "impressionist" rendition that windy1 asked about. Hot Rod Lincoln has been performed by many artists. Here's its history (<)
  18. San Francisco Girls (Return Of The Native) by Fever Tree I heard just the very end of this song a few days ago. I absolutely remembered it, but I wouldn't have been able to "Name That Tune" in a hundred notes or a thousand years if the radio DJ hadn't announced it.
  19. Must be Bill Kirchen. See this description from Rhino Records. I'll have to check it out. He does Bo Diddley, too.
  20. Well, I was able to avoid the draft, and to dodge a similar question from windy1 a few months back.
