  1. I posted this yesterday under current events and news, should be merged to that thread.
  2. In February, Patrick Swayze reportedly had mysterious surgery for an unnamed ailment. Now, one tabloid is reporting the worst possible news. A month after the New York Post reported that Swayze underwent a "gastro-intestinal procedure" at Stanford University Medical Center, the National Enquirer claims that Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and that the 'Dirty Dancing' actor has five weeks to live. No other media sources have confirmed the Enquirer report at this point, nor has a Swayze rep responded. An Enquirer source says Swayze had been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, but the treatments did not help as planned. "It's time to start praying for a miracle," the source said about Swayze's health. A source for blogger Perez Hilton claims otherwise. "Patrick has been at rehearsals for a new cheer leading movie at century city studio frequently lately, and he definitely does not look like he has 5 more weeks of life left…im not sure of his medical condition(s), but if he is gravely ill, he is hiding it very well," the source told the blogger. Swayze, whose career took him to the top of Hollywood in the '80s and '90s, had two major box office hits with 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Ghost.' He also had key roles in Francis Ford Coppola's 'The Outsiders,' 'Point Break' and 'Roadhouse.' This is sad news, if it's true. I saw some photos of him last October I think and he did seem to look not all that great, very tired looking.
  3. I've been listening to her quite a bit over the past few days, and watching clips on youtube. I just love her, she is so unique and her talent is top-notch. More people need to take a listen if they've never heard Rickie sing, her voice will pull you in, and you will be hooked. And yes she is gorgeous in her way, and I feel that comes from her soul shinning through her music.
  4. Someone other than me has to like Rickie...come on don't be shy.
  5. Fruit and yogurt parfait from Mickey D's, special K raspberry cereal bar, and apple/cranberry juice. I better never get sick anytime soon with all this fruit I'm eating...getting lots of vitamins in me!!
  6. I was introduced to The Beatles around age 4 and I fell in love, but then when I was around 7 my Mom played Janis. Instant love and connection, and it just stays as strong to this day. I love her for many reasons, her amazing voice, her sweetness, her sassiness, giving you her soul with every song she sings...and the list goes on. I feel not only a musical connection but an emotional one with Janis. She was always looking for that one great love...as am I.
  7. Talk about a comeback. Ben Roethlisberger signed an eight-year extension Monday with the Pittsburgh Steelers that is worth $102 million and makes him one of the league's top-paid players. "He's a Steeler and he'll always be a Steeler," team chairman Dan Rooney said. The extension was first reported by FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer. The agreement comes after Roethlisberger re-established himself as one of the NFL's best quarterbacks last season, and nearly two years after his life and career were threatened by a motorcycle crash. The accident happened a few months after he led the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory. Roethlisberger's contract guarantees him $36 million and is easily the largest in the Steelers' 76-season history. The quarterback, who turned 26 Sunday, gets $25 million immediately as a signing bonus. "I told them I didn't want to go anywhere the day I walked in (as a rookie in 2004)," Roethlisberger said Monday. "I love Pittsburgh, I love the fans. Got probably the best organization and fans in all of sport. I don't want to go anywhere." Nor did the Steelers want to lose the club's most successful quarterback since four-time Super Bowl winner Terry Bradshaw. Roethlisberger, drafted in 2004 as part of the same QB class as the Giants' Eli Manning and the Chargers' Philip Rivers, won all 13 regular-season starts as a rookie, began his career 27-4 and already has appeared in two AFC title games and seven playoff games. Last season, Roethlisberger threw 32 touchdown passes with only 11 interceptions in leading the Steelers to a 10-6 regular-season record and the playoffs, a major turnaround from his 23-interception season of 2006. In four seasons, Roethlisberger has steered Pittsburgh to two AFC championship games, one Super Bowl and three playoff appearances. No Steelers quarterback, not even Bradshaw, had a better start to his career; Bradshaw didn't win a Super Bowl until his fifth season. Roethlisberger wants to be "like the Dan Marinos, like the John Elways, guys who played with one team their whole career." The Steelers, quiet in free agency until signing running back-kick returner Mewelde Moore on Monday, felt some urgency to get a deal done with Roethlisberger. Director of football operations Kevin Colbert called it his top offseason priority. Roethlisberger was due a $2.95 million bonus this month that, if paid, would have put the Steelers over the salary cap. By reworking Roethlisberger's contract now, the team rolled that bonus into his new contract and can prorate his signing bonus over the eight years of the contract. "Ben never said, 'I need a record-breaking contract.' He never said, 'I need the most money in the history of anything,"' said Roethlisberger's agent, Ryan Tollner. "He said, 'I need a fair deal."' Roethlisberger, who played in his first Pro Bowl last month, is now focused on getting "a bunch more trophies." "I believe that the guys we have on this team right now are exceptional players," he said. "I believe we all have the pieces of the puzzle, that we could be a championship football team, and I think that we know the history that we have of drafting well, we'll be able to bring guys in that will hopefully do more." Roethlisberger was one of the leading vote-getters for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. By contrast, he never found a groove in 2006 after reporting to training camp only six weeks after his motorcycle crash in Pittsburgh, then needed an appendectomy the week of the season opener. The Steelers started 2-6 before finishing 8-8 during former coach Bill Cowher's 15th and final season. Moore, the Steelers' only pickup during free agency, spent his first four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. A likely replacement for kick returner Allen Rossum, he returned two punts for touchdowns and averaged 10.4 per return while returning 74 punts from 2003-07. He averaged 19.3 yards on 26 kickoff returns. YEAH!! And Big Ben is right, Steelers fans are the best around!!
  8. Marc you are right, I think of my day every day and talk to my daughter about him, he's always with me.
  9. Good for you Tim, too many people think their vote doesn't matter, yes it does!
  10. HAVE A FANTASTIC DAY RAY!! IF I COULD I WOULD BE THERE TO CELEBRATE WITH YOU, LUV YA!!
  11. Farin, you're a brave young man. The station I use to work at was classic rock and new rock and all us DJ's would cringe when Tool showed up in our show. But we all have our taste in music. I forget the song that was so popular back then 2001 or 2002 but it was one I didn't enjoy playing in my show.
  12. I just found out that the musical "Love, Janis" is coming to my area. I was excited at first but then went to the website for the musical and the woman playing Janis doesn't fit. She has blonde hair and not bad looking. I don't know if I could sit through 2 hours of watching someone who doesn't resemble Janis in some way, at least she should have brown hair and downplay the makeup. Janis wasn't a big makeup person. Love, Janis link Take a look at the photo gallery, not what I thought, and unfortunately I can't listen to the sound clips to see if she sounds like Janis.
  13. Not even LSD could make Tool sound good, that is unless you are passed out and can't hear the music at all!
  14. Ken, your wife is beautiful. I hope you do have another 21 years together and more, great looking the both of you!
  15. I miss my Dad just stopping by to say hello and chit-chat....
  16. Watched a couple over the weekend.... The Brave One with Jodie Foster. I always watch her movies, I've been a fan since I was a teen. This movie is intense. And as always Jodie did a great performance on screen. She plays Erica Bane a survivor of a brutal attack in New York City. She is compelling, and you see her as a hero in a sense but not as a superhero type character. Terrence Howard plays a good guy cop that she finds a connection with and they understand one a another. There is a twist at the end, which I was surprised but yet going, yeah that is how it should be. Naveen Andrews from 'Lost' is in the movie as her fiancee briefly. It has moments of violence but they aren't there just to have violence in a move. 8/10 American Gangster with Denzel Washington. Based on the life of Harlem gangster Frank Lucas back in the 70's who brings in herion from Bangkok. Russell Crowe plays the cop that goes after him and eventully brings him down. They both give good performances, giving their characters depth. Ruby Dee who I believe is one of our finest actress' plays the mother of Frank Lucas. There is a substantial amount of violence but you are watching a movie about gangsters. It's a long movie, 3 hours but the story goes over quite a few years and you get to know the two lead characters. I was a bit disappointed with the ending, you want to know more of what happened with the two lead characters. 7/10
  17. Sad news for the music world, a great talent, he will be missed.
  18. Blind rock and jazz musician Jeff Healey has died after a lifelong battle against cancer. He was 41. Healey died Sunday evening in a Toronto hospital, said bandmate Colin Bray, who was in the room with Healey's family when the guitarist died. The Grammy-nominated Healey rose to stardom as the leader of the Jeff Healey Band, a rock-oriented trio that gained international acclaim and platinum record sales with the 1988 album "See the Light." The album included the hit single "Angel Eyes." Due to his blindness, Healey taught himself to play guitar by laying the instrument across his lap. His unique playing style, combined with his blues-oriented vocals, earned him a reputation as a teenage musical prodigy. He shared stages with George Harrison, B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Bray said he and many others expected the guitarist to rally from this latest illness. "I don't think any of us thought this was going to happen," Bray said. "We just thought he was going to bounce back as he always does." Healey had undergone numerous operations in recent years to remove tumors from his lungs and leg. Bray and fellow bandmate Gary Scriven remembered their frontman as a musician of rare abilities with a generous nature and wicked sense of humor. Healey's true love was jazz, the genre that dominated his three most recent albums. His love of jazz led him to host radio shows in Canada where he spun long-forgotten numbers from his personal collection of over 30,000 vinyl records. His death came weeks before the release of his first rock album in eight years. "Mess of Blues" is slated for a North American release on April 22. He is survived by his wife, Christie, and two children.
  19. Hate to break this to you Ray, but being in radio is poverty level pay, you ain't doin' it for the cash!
  20. A thread for Rickie Lee Jones is long past due, thanks to johnnyguitar for giving me the idea to start a thread for her. I got turned on to Rickie back in high school of course with Chuck E's in Love and I was hooked. Her blend of R&B, jazz, and pop is just as cool as she comes across on stage. I feel she is a forgotten talented singer/songwriter. Mainly because she isn't "mainstream", but then who wants to listen to mainstream? Rickie was recognized for her unique sound at the 1980 Grammys with five awards. Being a classic rock chick I was surprised that I felt drawn to her sound, but she had that coolness about her music and I was impressed with her as a musician. I have 6 of her albums and listen to them still. With a couple of her CD's in my car. The ultimate was seeing her in concert back in the early 80's. She is just a chick singung her songs, she is there for the love of the music and she's very hip and cool. She can look almost plain at times but then she can be so beautiful on that stage. I found this on Wiki in her bio and I feel it gives you an insight into Rickie. Wiki info on Rickie Lee Jones I will be sharing her music with my daughter and hope that she feels the connection that I have felt to Rickie's music. Here are some clips from youtube for fans of hers to take a listen or if you've never experienced the Rickie Lee Jones sound, check them out. Rickie Lee Jones videos
