Songs for my lil' brother

belle

Recommended Posts

My 16 year old dog passed away yesterday, after struggling for a long time. He always was like a brother for me, certainly if you know that I'm only 18, so ever since I could remember, he had been in my life.

But now the question... Do any of you know any songs about grieving over someone? (Dog or Person, because he was more than just a "pet") Just anything dealing with the death of someone...

Modern or old, any genre, it's all welcome.

And please don't answer with "he's just a dog, get over it" because I will never be able to. He is not just a dog, he was my lil' bro.

Shannon

Henry Gross

** FYI: Shannon is a dog **

Another day's at end

Mama says she's tired again

No one can even begin to tell her

I hardly know what to say

But maybe it's better that way

If poppa were here I'm sure he'd tell her

Shannon is gone I heard

She's drifting out to sea

She always loved to swim away

Maybe she'll find an island

With a shaded tree

Just like the one in our backyard

Mama tries hard to pretend

That things will get better again

Somehow she's keepin' it all inside her

But finally the tears fill our eyes

And I know that somewhere tonight

She knows how much we really miss her

Shannon is gone I heard

She's drifting out to sea

She always loved to swim away

Maybe she'll find an island

With a shaded tree

Just like the one in our back yard

Ah....

Just like the one in our back yard

Ah....

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

-Written by B. Scott and B. Russell

-Peaked at #7 in 1970 as performed by the Hollies

-Peaked at #20 in 1970 as performed by Neil Diamond

-Peaked at #30 as the B-side to "Let It Shine"

in 1976 as performed by Olivia Newton-John

The road is long

With many a winding turn

That leads us to who knows where

Who knows when

But I'm strong

Strong enough to carry him

He ain't heavy, he's my brother

So on we go

His welfare is of my concern

No burden is he to bear

We'll get there

For I know

He would not encumber me

He ain't heavy, he's my brother

If I'm laden at all

I'm laden with sadness

That everyone's heart

Isn't filled with the gladness

Of love for one another

It's a long, long road

From which there is no return

While we're on the way to there

Why not share

And the load

Doesn't weigh me down at all

He ain't heavy, he's my brother

He's my brother

He ain't heavy, he's my brother...

Hi there melancholydemon. I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of your beloved Samson. As you were fortunate to have shared all those years with Samson, he too was very lucky to have had your love. You've received some really nice suggestions from the good folks here at songfacts.com. You couldn't have come to a more caring bunch of people and I hope everthing works out for you. No doubt it will take some time and if you feel like talking or whatever, drop us a line. We'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, you have have our deepest condolences and we wish you nothing but the very best. Take care.

Im REALLY sorry about your dog. It sucks to be grieving. I lost a friend this past week. So I know all about grieving at the current moment. And Monday (the 19th) will be 2 years since I lost someone really close to me. So yea Im pretty beat down right now also, but thats ok bc I know we will all make it through.

Roger Clyne wrote this song after his best friend passed away...

Ashes Of San Miguel

I spun a bottle on the map to tell us which way to go

now we´re hellbound south into Hermosillo

got the ashes of my best friend in a cremation jar on the shotgun seat of the

car

got the top chopped off

got the windows down

one last tour through our happy, happy hunting grounds

though we never made a kill, that was never really what we came down here for

so give me a sign, amigo can you tell me

did you go down laughin´ when you finally fell

we had tales to tell and songs to sing

did you get your horns or did they give you wings

either works just as well

ashes of san miguel

well it´s a hundred and one under this fanatical sun

them black-eyed federales drippin' sweat on their machine guns

sayin', "...drive on slow, gringo, you ain´t as savage as you think you

are..."

I bought a box of firecrackers and liquor to go

vamonos, amigo para Bahía Kino

everything´s here I got the pesos and the beer

still ain´t no sign of your ghost

chorus

the desert´s lovely, dark and deep

and I got no more promises left to keep

but why

tell me why

I gotta drain a bottle dry

before I can cry

before I can cry over you

there´s bones on the beach

and there´s ashes in the jar

ghosts in the air laughin' at us fools at the bar

and somewhere inside this river don´t run to the sea no more

life is cheap here and death is rich

and he finally got you, lucky son of a bitch

and if I could do it again

I´d cry aloud at your hospital bed

if you're interested, go to Roger Clyne's web site
