face
Hey gang, So--- I was listening to the radio the other day, and "There She Goes" came on-- cool song. I've loved it since the first time I heard it. But, even though I've heard it a million times, it suddenly dawned on me the other day as I was listening, "Oh my gosh... it sounds like they're talking about drugs!" So then I got online, did a lyric search, and read all the lyrics (you can't always tell what they're saying) and then I was even more convinced. I looked at a couple of the next hits, and it turns out there's a whole site for songs about Heroin, and "There She Goes" is listed. Of course, that could just be the site owners opinion. I really like that song. It's still good, awesome music, but I'll be totally bummed if that's what it's really about. Especially since the group that re-recorded it, Sixpence None The Richer, is supposed to be a Christian group. Here are the lyrics-- am I just being paranoid? "There she goes There she goes again Racing through my brain And I just can't contain, this feeling that remains There she blows There she blows again Pulsing through my vein And I just can't contain, this feeling that remains There she goes There she goes again She calls my name, pulls my train And no-one else can heal my pain But I just can't can't contain, this feeling that remains There she goes There she goes again Chasing down my lane And I just can't contain, this feeling that remains There she goes There she goes There she goes"
MuzikTyme
If you like the song then forget about the lyrics. IMO, it's definitely about the drug experience but the melody doesn't have to be. "racing through my brain pulsing through my vein" The happy sounding melody is inconsistent with the average drug song though. Everytime I hear the song I'm reminded of So I married an Axe Murderer. ::
spawnfreak
I agree with MuzikTyme. If you like the song, just enjoy it. In December of 2002, Jay Jacobs interviewed the lead singer, Leigh Nash, of the band Sixpence None the Richer. He asked, " How would you ideally like people to see the band's music? " She responded, " I guess just as music that is made by people who really love to make music...but obviously I want people to get something out of it and really enjoy it and make a connection with it." Looks like you've suceeded. It's a great song. They did the remake because they loved the La-La's - nothing more, nothing less.
larla3298
ahh i never knew it was a/b drugs! I guess that its one of those songs that it can mean something to one person, then something completely diff. to another. I prefer it to be a/b a girl lol, even if it wasnt written like that! Kashmir
I had no idea those were the lyrics in general. I always thought it was about some girl just dealing with every day life. The music is very catchy and the singer's voice is gentle and sweet. It doesn't bother me either way.
Jillianne
I like that song, it sounds good on the piano, so what if its about drugs?
Joel17592
I'm not sure how much this is true but I had read before, on some website I cannot remember, that besides being a love song, "There She Goes" also had an encripted double meaning, referring to taking heroin. Of course, heroin is shot up, "pulsing through one's veins" if you will. On another interesting note, again, take it for what it's worth, some people found it odd that Sixpence None the Richer covered this "love" song. The lyrics are definitely sung to a woman and SNTR's lead singer is also a woman. Sixpence picked up lesbian fans because of it.
Minky
Read in isolation, the lyrics seem fairly innocuous as you might expect from a song aimed squarely at the pop charts. But if you bear in mind that Lee Mavers, the band's lead singer, supposedly had a major heroin problem, they take on an altogether different slant. One that's almost impossible to ignore, to my mind. Mike
Kinda reminds me of... She's not a girl who misses much Do do do do do do do do She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand Like a lizard on a window pane. The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors On his hobnail boots Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy Working overtime A soap impression of his wife which he ate And donated to the Nation Trust. I need a fix 'cause I'm going down Down to the bits that I left uptown I need a fix cause I'm going down Mother Superior jump the gun Mother Superior jump the gun Mother Superior jump the gun Mother Superior jump the gun. Happiness is a warm gun Happiness is a warm gun When I hold you in my arms And I feel my finger on your trigger I know no one can do me no harm Because happiness is a warm gun -Yes it is. Now whatta-ya-supposin' John's singin' about here?
