The Songfactors' Choice Top Ten # 11

Recommended Posts

Thanks Edna. :) I thought Jimmy Cliff sang it originally.

Lady D'Arbanville sure has weird lyrics. Sounds like she's dead. Or she's just broken up with him and he regards her as "Dead" ? :P Great sound though.

Abridged Lyrics. (Some verses are repeated).

My Lady D'arbanville, why do you sleep so still?

I'll wake you tomorrow

And you will be my fill, yes, you will be my fill.

My Lady D'arbanville why does it grieve me so?

But your heart seems so silent.

Why do you breathe so low, why do you breathe so low,

My Lady D'arbanville, you look so cold tonight.

Your lips feel like winter,

Your skin has turned to white, your skin has turned to white.

I loved you my Lady, though in your grave you lie,

I'll always be with you

This rose will never die, this rose will never die.

Thanks c s. :) Your votes wouldn't have changed the songs in the Ten, but would have moved Another One Bites The Dust ahead of Sunny. But that's history.

I'm surprised that you know Classical Gas. It's a great Instrumental and I'd suggest that anyone who hasn't heard it should "acquire" it and have a listen.

Oh wow, I am very happy with that one :)

Your second Top Tenner and your first #1 ! Well done Angel.

I would have thought your other one, Good Bye Yellow Brick Road had a better chance for #1 than Wild World. Now we need a female solo artist to get to #1.

One of my favourite Instrumentals

I, for one, "discovered" it in a Simpson's episode, where Lisa plays it on a guitar :)

Hi Dappled. You're testing the memory now. I think I heard it on one of their albums about 40 years ago. I remember some good guitar on Texas though.

I'll bet bluesboy knows them!

:P

He should if he likes Mike Bloomfield! Texas was on their A Long Time Comin' album and Sunny on the follow up after Mike Bloomfield had left the group. It was named An American Music Band. Both were quite good.

Lots of friends on here now I see ! Steel Magnolia - we've missed you. And it looks like Laurie's computer still isn't fixed - missing her. Buy a new one Laurie !

Thanks Old 55. I've been quiet busy at work this week. I haven't had much time to think about nominations. I'm pretty sure that I'll miss Top Ten #12 since I'm going on vacation next week. :)

Interesting list this time. I see it fell into the 60's and 70's for the dominating factor despite the nominations from the 80's and 90's. Only 2 I voted on in my pick of 10 made it in. I am going to really put effort into the next nominations, I was happy to see Elton got a good number of votes, almost there he was!

I'll nominate a Mike Bloomfield song here soon.

I would nominate "You're so vain" if it wasn't so obvious...

That would be a great nomination Edna ! I don't think Angel "would probably think this song is about her - sorry, you".

We want a woman to Top the Ten soon. Or a female Group ? :)
