Lennon25 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Peter, Paul & Mary did a song called 500 miles (If you miss the train I'm on, you will know that I am gone. You can hear the whistle blow 500 miles)and it was covered by a group in the early 70's. It was a faster pace than the PP&M version. I had the 45 record back then but I cannot remember who the artist was. For some reason I keep thinking it was 'Heaven' or something like that. i could be way off though. If anyone out there can help, I would appreciate it. It seems as though it was popular around the same time as Vanity Fair's "Hitchin A Ride"...Thanks.
Uncle Joe Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 (edited) I'll have to check but it may have been a group called The Highwaymen who also had a hit with Michael Rowed The Boat Ashore. I'll get back to ya. Edited February 17, 2006 by Guest
Lennon25 Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 Yeah, i saw that but didn't think that was it, although now i'm thinking I may be wrong about that. I will look at that one too. Thanks man!
Earth-Angel Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Kingston Trio apparently covered it. I'll look out for more info
Earth-Angel Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Bad Astronaut and The Journeymen did a cover of this. Sorry the search has been so rushed, but I must get to bed
Earth-Angel Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Wow, go Das!! I could find nothing about them, and then saw they were a reggae/Gospel Bluegrass group so left it at that!
daslied Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 (edited) Wait, is it you, Sue, that unleashed the tirade about that particular smilie? Someone did. I won't let it happen again. Edited February 17, 2006 by Guest
Lennon25 Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 I think that's it! I cannot believe you could find that. Thank You!!
edna Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I think that's it! I cannot believe you could find that. Thank You!! Oh, believe it... I found gems in Songfacts... one hit wonders from the late 60s that didn´t even chart... This is the place to be...
Malakin Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 The Hooters also did a version of this, with PP&M singing the backing vocals. It's on the ZigZag album, of which I'm probably one of the 8 people in the world to have bought a copy.
Lennon25 Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 It is the place to be. When I couldn't find it I thought I would try this as a last resort. Not anymore though. This will always be my first stop. and if you guys can't help me, I'll just give up on it
