I've got "Jim Croce Live: The Final Tour" playing in the combo drive, when this phrase pops up in the intro to "Speedball Tucker." (The setup: a million-mile trucker is being interviewed on radio and notes that he'd wake up his co-driver to see what happens when a VW stopped to change a flat tire gets between a rig going down hill with no brakes and a gasoline truck heading up a two lane road in low gear.) The intro to the "Ball of Kerrymuir" is definitely "full of images," what's your image of this classic rocker/composer? :guitar:

I know that Speedball Tucker is the terror of the highways and all them other truckers will tell you that the boy is mad to be drivin' in a rig like that. Love that line..."all them other truckers".

Jim Croce was a poet with a guitar wrapped around his fingers. His postage stamp songs were made memorable through his talent to convey imagery by placing common words in a particular order and then setting them adrift in streams of uncommonly profound melodies.

That his casual, curly-headed life followed the pattern of Buddy Holly is an amazing coincidence and is of equal tragedy to we who love good music.

S2V....your words do Jim Croce justice. You painted who he was with your words. He gave us songs that will last forever, and I hope that every generation discovers them. He is missed by so many who were blessed to be here to see him perform live. A true musical spirit.
