RockyRaccoon Posted August 16, 2013 Author Report Posted August 16, 2013 I've heard the Springsteen cover from that album. I thought it was pretty good. It is good. But this is so good too.
RockyRaccoon Posted August 20, 2013 Author Report Posted August 20, 2013 If you like Tame Impala, check out Pond's new album "Hobo Rocket". Pond's lead singer is former Tame Impala bassist Nick Allbrook.
TheLizard Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I've been meaning to give that one a listen.
Liberal Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) Off the top of my head, best of summer releases to me are Yeezus, Sunbather, and Like Clockwork. edit: And Disclosure's album too. Edited August 20, 2013 by Guest
RockyRaccoon Posted August 21, 2013 Author Report Posted August 21, 2013 Off the top of my head, best of summer releases to me are Yeezus, Sunbather, and Like Clockwork. edit: And Disclosure's album too. Those are three of my favorites. Disclosure's album was just alright for me. Like, I liked it, but I didn't flip over it. Honestly, I think Pet Shop Boys released a better dance album this year.
TheLizard Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 So here's something I never thought I'd say: The new John Mayer album is really good. Sounds a lot like late 70s Clapton or JJ Cale (he even covers Call Me The Breeze).
RockyRaccoon Posted August 22, 2013 Author Report Posted August 22, 2013 So here's something I never thought I'd say: The new John Mayer album is really good. Sounds a lot like late 70s Clapton or JJ Cale (he even covers Call Me The Breeze). I liked it. I thought it was probably just as good as "Born And Raised". Some of the songs sounded a little pedestrian and the Frank Ocean and Katy Perry collaborations sounded out of place, but generally, I liked it. Also, I just finished Earl Sweatshirt's new album. It's pretty good, better than Tyler, The Creator's album. It takes a couple listens, but it's pretty impressive.
RockyRaccoon Posted August 25, 2013 Author Report Posted August 25, 2013 If you like Sigur Ros (and who doesn't?) go listen to Julianna Barwick's "Nepenthe", recorded with Alex Somers, a guy who frequently collaborates with Sigur Ros. It's gorgeous, and it's powerful. It's about as good as anything Sigur Ros has done.
TheLizard Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) This sixteen seconds of Eminem's new album is more exciting than any other non-Kanye hip-hop I've heard all year. Very, very Beastie Boys. Edited August 26, 2013 by Guest
TheLizard Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 If you like Sigur Ros (and who doesn't?) go listen to Julianna Barwick's "Nepenthe", recorded with Alex Somers, a guy who frequently collaborates with Sigur Ros. It's gorgeous, and it's powerful. It's about as good as anything Sigur Ros has done. That album just isn't hooking me the way it seems to be hooking everybody else. It's definitely got pretty moments, but it doesn't stick with me the way Sigur Ros does. However, I did finally get around to listening to Pond's Hobo Rocket, and that album rules.
RockyRaccoon Posted August 27, 2013 Author Report Posted August 27, 2013 That album just isn't hooking me the way it seems to be hooking everybody else. It's definitely got pretty moments, but it doesn't stick with me the way Sigur Ros does. Bummer. Give another listen or two, maybe it'll catch, maybe not. I've grown to really like it. However, I did finally get around to listening to Pond's Hobo Rocket, and that album rules. Awesome I'm glad you like it, I thought you might.
RockyRaccoon Posted August 29, 2013 Author Report Posted August 29, 2013 Go listen to Forest Swords' "Engravings" because it's one of the best electronic albums of the year
TheLizard Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Neko Case's new album is exactly as amazing as you would expect Neko Case's new album to be.
RockyRaccoon Posted September 9, 2013 Author Report Posted September 9, 2013 So Chvrches album is very good. Good electro-pop kinda stuff.
RockyRaccoon Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 So the new album from the Arctic Monkeys, "AM", is fantastic. Their best album since "Favourite Worst Nightmare", maybe even better than that.
TheLizard Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Gah, this month is the worst possible time to be dealing with a big move. So much good stuff coming out!
RockyRaccoon Posted September 18, 2013 Author Report Posted September 18, 2013 So Janelle Monae's new album is awesome. I have no idea who Kellindo Parker is, but his guitar playing is fantastic on this album.
RockyRaccoon Posted September 21, 2013 Author Report Posted September 21, 2013 I love Elvis Costello and I love The Roots, so naturally, an album in which Elvis Costello and The Roots collaborated would be something I'd enjoy right? Wrong. It's boring as crap. Really disappointed.
RockyRaccoon Posted September 23, 2013 Author Report Posted September 23, 2013 Did Kings Of Leon just release their best album since "Because Of The Times"? You bet they just did.
RockyRaccoon Posted September 23, 2013 Author Report Posted September 23, 2013 Also, Manic Street Preachers have still got it. "Rewind The Film" is really different for them (read as: acoustic) but it is fantastic.
TheLizard Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 So many things I need to listen to! I just had to get distracted by this whole moving across the country nonsense.
RockyRaccoon Posted September 24, 2013 Author Report Posted September 24, 2013 So many things I need to listen to! I just had to get distracted by this whole moving across the country nonsense. YOU'RE SLACKING TIM. I feel like I'm talking to a wall since no one else listens to new music.
Carl Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Karmin, who I was prepared not to like, has what so far is my favorite song of the year: "Acapella." This jam has more hooks than a fishing boat.
TheLizard Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 I'm not normally too into electro-pop, so I don't know why I love CHVRCHES so much, BUT I LOVE THEM.
RockyRaccoon Posted September 27, 2013 Author Report Posted September 27, 2013 I'm not normally too into electro-pop, so I don't know why I love CHVRCHES so much, BUT I LOVE THEM. Right? It's really good stuff.
