Danielj Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Did anyone ever notice that in virtually every song, on VH1 and VH2 that there are women singing in the background? Not that its bad but did anyone ever notice? Who are they?
Aunt_Acid Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 They weren't women, they were young men who had been castrated to preserve their high voices. They were members of a Scottish choir that Van Halen ran into while they were touring there. Not really. That's pretty interesting though. I never noticed that.
_jr_ Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I believe the women you're refering to is really only one woman. Her name is Michael Anthony. LOL. It's true. He's one of the defining sounds of VH. Just to make sure before I opened my mouth, I went and looked at the sleeves, and there's no mention anywhere of any background singers.
Aunt_Acid Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Interesting to point out, there is a guy who sounds like a very manly woman from Electric Light Orchestra. He can be heard in the chorus of Evil Woman, in the fills going "You're an Evil Woman!" I have come to the conclusion that Jeff Lynne just recorded his own voice on an LP, turned up the speed to 45, and dubbed it back on to the song.
DoctorOfSpin Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 That's the first time in my many years as a Van Halen fan have I heard someone say that! That's hilarious! It's definitely Michael Anthony who you hear. You should hear him in concert, he'll just belt out a high pitch scream out of nowhere and it sounds like a women for sure. He's a great backing vocalist.
