Ultimate City Song

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a slideshow and need a song that embodies the excitement of the big city. I was thinking "Beat City" by the Flowerpot Men, but can't find it anywhere. So, I'm looking for alternatives. Any help would be great.

Not sure if these songs "embody" your intentions but it was fun thinking of these:

Fool for the City - Foghat

Living for the City - Stevie Wonder

Paradise City - GnR

Sweet City Woman - The Stampeders

Summer in the City - Lovin' Spoonful

I would've listed Starship's, We Built This City, but felt it better in it's own category.

Bluesboy - "What is hip? Tell me, tell me if you think you know."

Man, it's been ages since I heard that song. Good one!

You better believe they were, blues. I'm getting flashbacks:

"Don't change horses in the middle of the street...

Giddyup!!!"

Tower of Power couldn't have had a better name. They don't make 'em like that anymore. I bet it was a great show, their horn section was funking incredible. I'm not caught up with their projects as of late because my last memory of them was working with Huey Lewis and the News. Quite a different step for ToP but their horn section shined through Lewis' corniness.

Oh, speaking of dynomite, remember that silly song?

We shouldn't leave out

Bump City (Down To The Nightclub)

I'm one more Tower of Power fan club member. When I got my first component stereo, this was one of the first "required" records (for You Got To Funkifize, Skating On Thin Ice, etc.).

If You're Still A Young Man or Lady, and you haven't heard these old funkers, you really should "check their stuff out one time."
