ali2004 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I'm working on a slideshow and need a song that embodies the excitement of the big city. I was thinking "Beat City" by the Flowerpot Men, but can't find it anywhere. So, I'm looking for alternatives. Any help would be great.
cosmosis Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 LA Woman by The Doors is great. And it talks about the lights and all.
bluesboy Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Tower of Power What is Hip or Back on the Streets Again or Knock Yourself Out James Brown - The Popcorn James Gang - Funk #49 East Bay Grease '70 image from allmusic.com
XXX Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 "Hot In The City" by Billy Idol "Hot Child In The City" by Nick Gilder "You Belong To The City" by Glen Frey "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" by Hanoi Rocks "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty The theme from Taxi. The theme from Hill Street Blues. The theme from Taxi Driver. Take your pick ::
MuzikTyme Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Not sure if these songs "embody" your intentions but it was fun thinking of these: Fool for the City - Foghat Living for the City - Stevie Wonder Paradise City - GnR Sweet City Woman - The Stampeders Summer in the City - Lovin' Spoonful I would've listed Starship's, We Built This City, but felt it better in it's own category. Bluesboy - "What is hip? Tell me, tell me if you think you know." Man, it's been ages since I heard that song. Good one!
bluesboy Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Muzik, Those early Tower of Power albums are Dynamite! ___ I remember seeing them live back in '72 at SD State, Great show! Self titled 3rd album '73 image from allmusic.com
MuzikTyme Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 You better believe they were, blues. I'm getting flashbacks: "Don't change horses in the middle of the street... Giddyup!!!" Tower of Power couldn't have had a better name. They don't make 'em like that anymore. I bet it was a great show, their horn section was funking incredible. I'm not caught up with their projects as of late because my last memory of them was working with Huey Lewis and the News. Quite a different step for ToP but their horn section shined through Lewis' corniness. Oh, speaking of dynomite, remember that silly song?
bazooka Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 We shouldn't leave out Bump City (Down To The Nightclub) I'm one more Tower of Power fan club member. When I got my first component stereo, this was one of the first "required" records (for You Got To Funkifize, Skating On Thin Ice, etc.). If You're Still A Young Man or Lady, and you haven't heard these old funkers, you really should "check their stuff out one time."
Endymion Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I would actually use "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop.
DiggsUK Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 'In the City' by the Jam. Bruce Foxton at his best. Regards
