Mike
Emergency, such as a major power outage, earthquake, you know, your garden variety emergency? You should have some water to last a few days, flashlights, some portable cooking materials, some food (canned soups), a small generator (enough to run your fridge/freezer periodically to keep the temp down). Battery powered radio to listen for news bulletins. Gas for generator and fuel for portable cooking etc. Just to name a some essentials.
MindCrime
What about a wireless laptop with net card? It's helped me get my "posting fix", before, during a major-city blackout.
scott
And you should always watch behind rainbows/clouds/meteors for Heaven's Chimney, in the event of the Chimney's arrival, suicide protocol should be immediately followed. Lucky
Not long before leaving St Louis we went through 2 major weather related power outages, one due to straight line winds, one due to an ice storm. I went 4 days without power during the first, and 2 weeks without for the second. As much as you think it's not a huge deal ... it is. It sucked!! I laughed when I arrived in San Diego, and found that we have stuff stockpiled "for the big one". After the fires of a year ago though, I'm not laughing. I feel as though Mother Nature is following me around. We've got earthquake food, water, a stove & fuel, flashlights & batteries, candles & matches and I don't know what all else. I'd say we're prepared. Maybe we could use a generator. I've dealt with Mother Nature entirely enough, I will never be unprepared!
Ombre Vivante
I have a couple of boxes of water that I routinely change every 6-8 months as well as a backpack with a small radio, batteries, blanket, dried foods that last years, flashlight, threads, hunting knife, etc. in the trunk of my car. It's also good to keep a couple of guns and sufficient ammo in case anyone wants to steal the stash
Shawna
It's also good to keep a couple of guns and sufficient ammo in case anyone wants to steal the stash or so you can steal someone else's.

MindCrime
I'm thankful I live in just about the only U.S. major city that's never had a natural disaster, other than 130'f weather. The surrounding mountains block tornados off, but anything can happen.

MarcM
We are ready to a degree. We have water, food, plenty of blankets, tarps, and a tent. We could probably use a few more things, but we would make it a week.
