  1. In the late 60?s, John Lennon wanted to star in a Lord of the Rings movie with his wife, but wasn?t able to obtain the rights to the movie. If you?ve ever seen the movie Help!; It?s somewhat of a lampoon of LotR, with the 4 of them (and a pestering ring) evading the evil morals that try to murder it?s possessor.
  2. Usually I watch them on TV, or even in list format on websites, I'm not so interested in what ranking they produce, I just like to see the whole compilation of the greatest. As long as they include all of the good on there, it's usually worthwhile to watch or read.
  3. Batman, I meant it was a joke as in SPIN doesn't know what they're talking about, they never do. I used to buy their magazine, because I thought it was on the edge of current artists (which at the time were more decent) but they're so far-fetched from anything by these original artists, that they wouldn't know good music if a guitar got shoved up their @$$. They did good with mentioning Kraftwerk though, who were an original techno/electronica band of the 70's.

  5. Not to be confused with the "Fab Four" this band is mostly comprised of Jazz, World, & slightly electronic influence. Their 2002 album "Yesterday & Today / Revolver" is the most original album ever marketed in the music scene, which consists of such innovative tracks as Dr. Robert & Tomorrow Never Knows. My apologies for my lame @$$ humor & mock thread on this forum.
  6. hrmm... I don't think I've heard of them, but I'll try to give it a try, maybe with some luck, these guys can make the mainstream, who knows; it's crazy enough to work LOL Actually I like the songs "Live Forever", Supersonic and a few others off the "Definitely Maybe" album
  7. Alice In Chains Candlebox Jawbox Melvins Mudhoney Pearl Jam (early years) Screaming Trees Soundgarden STP (Core) (even though I don't consider them true grunge) (The Amalgamations:) Alice MudGarden (AiC, Mudhoney, Soundgarden) Green River (Mudhoney, MotherLoveBone=Pearl Jam) Mad Season (AiC, Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees) Temple of the Dog (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) During the 90's, most of what I listened to was these bands; it was a formation that was much diverse & not as typical than the rest. It lamented alternative music in a more shady intellect fashion, but for the better.
  8. I noticed a lot of similarities between both films, seeing as how they're focused on a panicky driver who's trying to avoid some lunatic. Joy Ride was a rip off, but at the same time still a good movie, that guy on the communicator (I forget what he called himself, I think it was something like Black Sheep) creeped me out. The movie was nowhere near the classic status that Duel is/was. It was one of Spielberg's first & best films.
  9. The only thing that makes Indiana Jones a trilogy, is the fact it had 3 movies of the same title/main character. The didn't flow in with each other, and the production was better than the actual storyline itself. I guess Star Wars could be counted as 2 different trilogy's (soon to be) but the beginning parts (latest releases) have been very faulty & didn't receive much critical acclaim as they did blockbuster sales.
  10. What bands are they reminiscent of, are there any noticeable influences? ::
  11. Picking up from last night... Nothing personal, but I fail to see how Paul Griffith (sp?) from Mr Big/Racer X is a more talented guitarist than Clapton/Hendrix. I've heard various songs done by them & it doesn't amaze me. He can't even compare to the likenesses of Vai/Satriani/Yngwie, let alone the revolutionary guitarists. I don't think that displaying both electric & acoustic (as a lot of alternative bands did) makes you "s**ty" as you had quoted last night. Of course this is all based in my opinion, and not a fact, so if this makes me "insane" to your thread, then I will leave as I see I'm not welcome.
  12. Many artists have covered this song over the past few years, everything from Rock to Pop to Rap. There was a recent song called Fame by a band known as Dust, it's a possibility, but I'm really not sure.
  13. They do! with a bit of a Santana influence. I hope these guys wind up getting the credit they deserve, if they can keep their track in the rock circle.
  14. He does a good job at both electric & acoustic. His work on Facelift followed by Dirt, IMO is his best, but I also like the Unplugged album.
  15. A lot of New Wave from the 80's gets stuck in my head easily, such as Turning Japanese, Rock Me Amadeus, Tarzan Boy, etc. I've always tried to steer as far away from that type of music as possible so it doesn't repeat itself in my head over & over again. Whoever writes it though, does a good job at making something that sticks.
  16. Half of this list is a joke anyways, I've always hated Spin's commentary & list ranking, but this one tops it. I don't see how Korn is better than Pink Floyd, Ramones more revolutionary than Led Zeppelin?, or Rage higher than The Who? I don't see how Fugazi or Pavement makes the cut, the same with Bad Brains. Who has heard of Fela Kuti? Who the hell remembers Blondie? Iggy Pop & the Stooges didn't do enough for the top 20, CCR would've been much better up there. Where is Bob Dylan, Elvis, James Brown, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha, Fleetwood Mac, Buddy Holly, Simon & Garfunkel, B.B. King, Smokey Robinson, etc etc.. it goes on & on. Obviously when they said "All-Time" what they really meant was last 30 years or so.
  17. These guys are listed amongst the top 100 classic rock bands, they had a lot of radio air time with a few of their songs (like They Boys are Back in Town, Bad Reputation, & Jailbreak) They're a good band, even though I always thought of the late Phil Lynott as kind of a Jimi wannabee, but maybe not.
  18. This is a somewhat old list now, 2 years in the making. But SPIN made a list of the top 50 greatest rock bands ever: 01. The Beatles 02. Ramones 03. Led Zeppelin 04. Bob Marley & The Wailers 05. Nirvana 06. Parliament/Funkadelic 07. The Clash 08. Public Enemy 09. The Rolling Stones 10. Beastie Boys 11. The Velvet Underground 12. Sly and The Family Stone 13. U2 14. Run-D.M.C. 15. Radiohead 16. The Jimi Hendrix Experience 17. Sonic Youth 18. Ac/Dc 19. The Stooges 20. Metallica 21. The Smiths 22. Patti Smith Group 23. N.W.A. 24. Kraftwerk 25. The Sex Pistols 26. Pearl Jam 27. Grateful Dead 28. R.E.M. 29. Black Sabbath 30. Pavement 31. Fugazi 32. Kiss 33. Pretenders 34. Rage Against The Machine 35. Fela Kuti & Afrika 70/Egypt 80 36. David Bowie And The Spiders From Mars 37. Blondie 38. Bad Brains 39. The Who 40. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five 41. New Order 42. Husker Du 43. Guns N' Roses 44. Outkast 45. The Beach Boys 46. Massive Attack 47. Lynyrd Skynyrd 48. Korn 49. Pink Floyd 50. Red Hot Chili Peppers They only got #1 right, with a lot of good artists mentioned, a lot of the others could've been done without.
  19. I would, but around 4/5 of the Top 20 threads on this forum are about Guitarists, I don't want to annoy anybody with another thread of the same topic LOL
  20. I'm not sure who sings it, but I think Tenacious uses that for her siggy.
  21. Hey, I'm looking for a thread from last night, It was titled something like "Calling all Sane Musicians" I had an answer prepared for the debate with the guy who started the thread. Is it still here or did it get deleted? ::
  22. OK I'll delete the ones I don't need, & thank you for replying, I've been kinda waiting, wondering if I need to delete those, in case it blocks others from coming in
  23. They're receiving mainstream credibility, I've seen the video for Heaven a few times on the local morning music video channel (61) here in Phoenix, they're pretty popular out here. They're a nice blend of bluesy Tex-Mex rock & worth the listen. :guitar:
  24. Better Man was written by Eddie Vedder when he was with a previous band called "Bad Radio". Also check this out on SongFacts
