  2. Granted. But your book, "My Dinner with Osama bin Laden" puts you square in the CIA's crosshairs. (Not to worry, Mossad has you on ice...lierally.) I wish Gracenote had a "Zydeco" category.
  3. Great Big Sea Name a Boston Punk band that's been grouped with GBS.
  4. That is an interesting image, now where's that 1967 "California Dreaming" demo of KC? Found it...right next to Nilsson's "The Point." :sleepy:
  5. When the subject of Karen Carpenter came up way back in the 1960's, it was usually one of jest and derision. As in: "You're a fan of that Pop drivel? The Carpenters!? They're a half step down from Mrs. Miller! Go listen to some Bo Diddley, take a ride on the Jefferson Airplane, then discuss some Serious Music!" (As in "Big Brother & The Holding Company," with Janis Joplin.) So what does Karen Carpenter have to do with "Eleven dollar bills"?
  6. "Na Lani 'Eha" by Ku'uipo Kumukahi "Anthology," a 2 CD career spanner of Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys (1950-1981) "Asking For Flowers" by Kathleen Edwards. :guitar:
  7. If you'd like me to score your answers, just fire them over to tlsreview@gmail dot com. I'll post the answers tomorrow. Good Luck! 1) Which UK city has the smallest population, Nottingham, Cardiff or Bristol? 2) How many countries beginning with the letter M have held the Olympics? 3) Which Shakespeare play contains the character Edmund –'Macbeth', 'King Lear' or 'Romeo and Juliet'? 4) During which month is the The Mayor of London’s Show held? 5) Name two London Underground stations that contain all the vowels. 6) William the Conqueror laid the foundation for which famous London landmark in 1078? 7) What's the capitol of China? 8) Name four American states beginning with the word New. 9) What's the largest city in Turkey? 10) The Caspian Sea is on which continent? 11) Which colour would you find on the left hand corner of the French flag? http://terriblelovesongs.blogspot.com
  8. Sorry, English is my second language.
  9. So, it's a ribald answer you want? OK, here's another answer to #20: Katherine Battle. (If she's good enough for Christopher Parkening...)
  10. As I recall, Karen Carpenter was a very good drummer, so she was as much a musician as Fergie. So, can YOU do these 20 questions?
  11. Considering current events, species Homo Sapiens. Name your favorite species.
  12. When this post first appeared, question #8 was incomplete/unclear. I stopped at the last question for a Google! search, wiped everything, so I'll fill in the blanks once more. 1. What's your favorite band? Jim Croce's road band, if you mean in an "After Life" kind of way. (The only band to accompany one to The Next Life.) 2. Do you play an instrument? I've tortured 'Ukuleles and guitars. 3. Sing? Like a toad/frog in the summer time. 4. Write lyrics? "There once was a Rocker from Nantucket..." 5. Have you ever slept with a drummer? Does Hula count? 6. What's the coolest concert you've ever attended? Any of the Diamond Head Crater Celebration new year/summer concerts of the late 1960's to early 1970's. One could see/hear the famous (Santana, Buddy Rich) to the not-so-famous (Cecilio & Kapono, Gabby Pahinui). 7. Who's the most skilled guitarist of all time? A tie between Andres Segovia and John Williams if you mean Classical Guitar. 8. Name a song that just makes you want to break stuff. "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones. 9. Name three musicians who died of drug overdoses. That subject's been addressed more times than necessary. 10. What's the best lyric ever written? "Oh Beautiful, for spacious skies..." 11. If you could experience one band/artist perform live at any point in history, who? Since they never played Honolulu, the early Beatles. 12. If you could master any instrument, which would it be? The piano, so I could do "Dueling Pianos" with my sister. 13. If you had the power to rid the world of one genre of music, what would be gone? What, stand in the way of someone's self expression? 14. What song do you have playing right now? "96 Degrees In the Shade" performed by Mana'o Company. 15. Greatest album in the history of time? Thomas Edison's first wax recordings. 16. Is Elvis still The King? Better him than Michael Jackson. 17. What's your favourite musical? "Man of La Mancha," with Richard Kiley as "Don Quixote." 18. When you hear the phrase "Rock 'N' Roll" what comes to mind? Chuck Berry and Little Richard! 19. Ever wanted to be a D.J.? If college counts, I was an FM LP spinner in the 1970's. Otherwise, my music collection is good only for Classic Rock or Hawaiian-themed parties. 20. If you could sleep with any famous musician, who would it be? A tossup between Linda Ronstadt or Karen Carpenter? :sleepy:
  13. Here's a set of questions that keeps popping up on mog.com from time to time. Is your musical insurance all paid up? 1. What's your favorite band 2. Do you play an instrument? 3. Sing? 4. Write lyrics? 5. Have you ever slept with a drummer? 6. What's the coolest concert you've ever attended? 7. Who's the most skilled guitarist of all time? 8. Name a song that just makes you want to break stuff. 9. Name three musicians who died of drug overdoses. 10. What's the best lyric ever written? 11. If you could experience one band/artist perform live at any point in history, who? 12. If you could master any instrument, which would it be? 13. If you had the power to rid the world of one genre of music, what would be gone? 14. What song do you have playing right now? 15. Greatest album in the history of time? 16. Is Elvis still The King? 17. What's your favourite musical? 18. When you hear the phrase "Rock 'N' Roll" what comes to mind? 19. Ever wanted to be a D.J.? 20. If you could sleep with any famous musician, who would it be?
  14. Granted, but every word is now a live, ready-to-fire bullet, which wreaks havoc whenever you use your computer! I wish death upon all Phishers!
  15. Oops, time to restart this "wishes go wrong" thread. The wish for a creative wish was granted, but got stuck on a Mobius band. I wish for a month of Saturdays. (A month of Sundays is for righteous folk.)
  16. Played his last gig. Al Green
  17. Granted. You are now the head of Make-A-Wish, and all that comes with the job. You lasted nearly a year, then were carted off to "the laughing academy." I wish to grant Kevin's wish, but it isn't phrased "I wish..."
  18. Alive. Dave Grusin (I was going to say "Glenn Miller," but he's considered MIA.)
  19. I'll go first to see if MP3 players/programs even have OUIJA functions: * Waking Up: "Ka Lei E" by The Peter Moon Band * First Day At School: "Little Red Light" by Fountains of Wayne * Falling In Love: "Mr. Postman" by The Carpenters * Fight Song: "They Can't Take That Away From Me" by Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong * Breaking Up: "Kaleleonalani" by Pekelo * Prom: "Hi'ilawe" by Sean Na'auao & Robi Kahakalau * Life: "New Year's Day" by U2 * Mental Breakdown: "Impossible Anna" by John Cruz * Driving: "Lover's Cross" by Jim Croce * Flashback: "Lucky Me" by Great Big Sea * Wedding: "We're All Alone" by Cecilio & Kapono * Losing your virginity: "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac * Birth Of Child: "Homeward Bound" by Simon & Garfunkel * Final Battle: "(There'll Be) Peace In The Valley (For Me) by Elvis Presley * Death Scene: "New York's Not My Home" by Jim Croce * Funeral Song: "Devil's Dream" by Mark O'Connor * End Credits: "Lady D'Arbanville" by Cat Stevens I don't know what Pekelo's song is about, since neither the CD nor his website have lyrics. "Hi'ilawe" sort of fits, since it's a song about a Hula dancer, her lover, and the gossips who dog them. "Impossible Anna" is a bitter break up song. Having Mark O'Connor playing a jig at a funeral is either genius or in bad taste. Oops! you beat me to the punch!
  20. Found on mog.com, a nice time waster for digital music players or computers so afflicted. "Eden" writes: So, here's how it works: 1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc.). 2. Put it on shuffle. 3. Press play. 4. For every question, type the song that's playing. 5. When you go to a new question, press the next button. 6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool...because none of us are (<-personal note - i will ******* you not on a single one of these - itunes is freaky psychic, and i think i know at least two other people out there who are with me on this, namely my friend shitbird, dare i call him out on it. but seriously - itunes/ipods have this mysterious sense of both humor and soothsaying. like for example, just now, as i was writing the above while the second song was playing, when i pressed the button for the next question, the song that came up for me was the song that was leftover from the person before me in the spot i'd just answered. i think i am about to be visited by a spiritual force now. so on with the meme.) * Waking Up: dancing diamonds - les baxter * First Day At School: 80s fan - camera obscura * Falling In Love: definite choice - 7 seconds * Fight Song: the centre will hold - swan island * Breaking Up: the bitch is back - elton john * Prom: cinderella, stay in my arms - vera lynn * Life: sou preto nao tenho - from the brazilian version of the musical HAIR (i dont know what this means or what song this is so i can't determine what itunes is telling me) * Mental Breakdown: impossible love - daniel johnston (he had a mental breakdown) * Driving: believing is art - spoon * Flashback: ne me quitte pas - jaques brel * Wedding: boogaloo - keith mansfield orchestra * Losing your virginity: world without love - del shannon * Birth Of Child: ballade de melody nelson - serge gainsbourg * Final Battle: crystalline green - goldfrapp * Death Scene: don't forget - martha wainwright * Funeral Song: no more mr. nice guy - alice cooper (omg that actually would be a really awesome funeral song) * End Credits: i don't like mondays - the boomtown rats (well done, itunes, i really don't like mondays!)
  21. Alive and swinging with Puff. Leo Kottke
  22. Granted. You are now the CEO of "DeAngelo's Scrap & Playground Equipment Brokers." Your company motto is: "So some kids are scarred for life, I got mine at the bank!" Parents in five states are after you for selling sub-par playground equipment to various schools and municipal parks. I wish for "World Peace."
  23. Granted. He later learns to sight read music and goes on to a composing career on par with Quincy Jones. I wish I had an "Alien for Christmas."
  24. Granted. Welcome to Kim Jong-Il's Pyongyang Hardware Store. Unfortunately, it's all dodgy military hardware, as likely to explode, fall apart, or irradiate you. I wish to see José Feliciano in concert.
