  1. I did a Google! search, then went over to allmusic, but there is no mention of either Ornette Coleman nor Little Jimmy Scott with Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia." Where did you hear this version? (Little Jimmy Scott's somprano-like voice is distinctive enough to stand out even in a Phil Spector-like mix.) If the movie folk sampled/spliced part of an earlier LJS recording of another song, things could get very interesting.
  2. Richard Smothers (the elder) is quite alive and continues to crack wise. Richard Jr. continues to be a player in the porn movie-making circuit. Pete Seeger
  3. I think that's from "Dragnet" (the movie, not the TV series). "Thank you, Sarah, for your courage through the dark years. I can't help you with what you must soon face, except to say that the future is not set. You must be stronger than you imagine you can be. You must survive, or I will never exist."
  4. What's the one thing needed to start a flood of biblical proportions in the caught-between-heavy-snowfall/spring thaw midwest? Rockin' Robin
  5. Eh? Did you say something? This year the fireworks freaks didn't fire off as many house-burning rockets as last year. This 12/31/2009, the new thing is small bombs loud enough to rattle the windows of the entire neighborhood! The south winds blew the smoke away, then soaked the rocketeers under a deluge 'round midnight. The trade winds are back, and the sun is shining, with nary a trace of red firecracker paper on the street. 2009 looks to be a good year. So, Hauoli Makahiki Hou!
  6. Alternating between The Serious and The (scientifically) Silly. SciFi channel's The Twilight Zone marathon: "Walking Distance" Discovery channel's Mythbusters marathon: Movie Myths (The awning as fall-breaker/sword-cutting/car ejection seat stunts)
  7. Note: "Jack Higgins" is a pen name/pseudonym for another writer, doing a "Richard Bachman."
  8. When the folks were alive and in good health, family friends were invited to Christmas dinner. The main dish was Chicken Hekka, aka Sukiyaki. Roll and cone sushi, baked ham, home-grilled Char Siu, and Turkey rounded out this feast for two dozen, with leftover plates made by guests to simplify cleanup. That was a good dozen or more years ago. Name your favorite "Happy New Year!" activity.
  9. What were Major "King" Kong's last words before he landed on the ICBM base? CHARGE!
  10. False. BBQ/Huli Huli Chicken is my fave. You're finished with Christmas, but ready for after Christmas sales.

  14. Spiders! (From "Boris" to the "Tarantula tapestry" from "Raiders of the Lost Ark.")
  15. "What Do Bad Girls Get?" performed by Joan Osborne
  16. The Man in the White Suit continues to write books. "Jack Higgins"
