  9. WELCOME TO THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE: Best Songs of 2012 *ALL MEMBERS OF SONGFACTS ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO PARTICIPATE * Please join us, and share your knowledge and your love of the things that keep SONGFACTS the community we all know and love. The basic guidelines are simple.... * The Songfactors' Music of Choice is decided by your nominations and votes. For each edition we'll ask that you nominate 2 OR 3 selections that meet the guidelines for that edition. * Each edition will about 3 weeks (or probably longer) . At the end of that time, we'll ask you to vote. You know how that works..... your lists will number 5 to 10, depending on subject, so we could change it up. We'll ask that you compile your list of choices from the final group of nominations. At the close of voting, we will have our Songfactors' Music of Choice. * Be as creative with this as you'd like. We want to encourage an exchange of thoughts, so this will be a place to learn about and enjoy the nominations, as well as the final choices. The guidelines may change with each edition. ..... Welcome To ..... THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE: Best Songs of 2012 The General Idea: This is fairly simple. There was a lot of music released in 2012, lots of it good. Here, we will decide on the ten best songs of 2012. Nominate your three choices and we will vote on them as we usually do. I figure we should get this going as it is slowly becoming more 2013. I'll leave the nominations open for a while, I'll post when I decide on a final date for closing them. Let's get this rolling. GIVE US YOUR NOMINATIONS NOW
  10. Hmm. You're right. Don't know why I thought he was a cast member. Other people who were cast members on SNL you may not have known: Laurie Metcalf Ben Stiller Gilbert Gottfried Anthony Michael Hall Sarah Silverman Joan Cusack Chris Elliot Randy Quaid Rob Riggle
  11. I think the method of the show has changed, but the fact that there are different types hasn't, if that makes sense. In other words, in 1975, you could go see Kiss be real loud, covered in makeup and spit blood out of their mouths. In that same year, you could also go see James Taylor sit down with his acoustic guitar and just play music. It goes back very far, Ken makes an excellent point of bringing up Screamin' Jay Hawkins who was ridiculously theatrical in his performances, at a time when not many people were. So I would say that the relation to the show and the music has been relatively the same over the years, there are musicians and bands that are very theatrical and ones that are not, the two have always existed is what I'm trying to say. It's not like everybody was quiet at a concert and then one year, out of nowhere, all of this theatricality showed up. It grew, slowly, but it has always been there. Perhaps it's more prevalent now, but it's not something new, I would say.
  12. Agreed. New Foxygen album is fantastic. Best way I can describe it is like Beach House turned up louder. Kinda dream-pop-like but with more rock
  13. "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby"- ? & The Mysterians (1967) "Repo Man"- Ray Lamontagne & The Pariah Dogs (2011) "1000 Answers"- The Hives (2012)
  14. I would definitely agree. It amazes me how many famous people have been cast members on SNL. I mean, there are the obvious people (John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy etc.) but then there's people like Robert Downey Jr., Paul Giamatti and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, all who I didn't know were on SNL.
  15. So the Local Natives album is phenomenal as is the new I Am Kloot album.
  16. 1. Plug In Baby - Muse (2001) 2. Still Fighting It- Ben Folds (2001) 3. Shout (Parts 1 and 2) - The Isley Brothers (1959) 4. Fade to Black - Metallica (1984) 5. Quicksand Jesus - Skid Row (1991) 6. Prisoner of Society - The Living End (1998) 7. A Tout Le Monde - Megadeth (1994) 8. Only Place, The - Best Coast (2012) 9. Panic in Detroit - David Bowie (1973) 10. Good Golly, Miss Molly - Little Richard (1958)
  17. "Still Fighting It"- Ben Folds (2001) "Plug In Baby"- Muse (2001) "Prisoner Of Society"- The Living End (1998)
  18. Doesn't particularly matter to me. We could do both if we wanted.
  19. RAVENSRAVENSRAVENSRAVENS I am all Ravens for the next two weeks. It still hasn't set in yet. The last time the Ravens were in the Super Bowl was the one they won in 2000 and I was too young to really appreciate it. But now, I'm gonna love this. And even if we lose, I can live with losing to the 49ers, I like them.
  20. That's where it lost me. Unprofessional and obviously ridiculously biased.
  21. So it's 2013 now. We're all alive and music is being made. What are you all excited for in music this year? One of my favorite bands, the Local Natives, released a new album today, I'm pumped to listen to it. I Am Kloot also released a new album today, so that's cool (Farin). Other bands/artists tentatively due to release albums in 2013: Eels David Bowie Suede Smashing Pumpkins Vampire Weekend Black Sabbath U2 AC/DC Alice In Chains The Black Keys Deep Purple Megadeth Dream Theater Pearl Jam Queens Of The Stone Age Rod Stewart The Strokes The Airborne Toxic Event Tool The Vines We'll see how many of those actually get released this year, but it looks like it should be good.
  22. Sad day for Orioles fans yesterday. I was at the annual Orioles Fanfest that they do every year to kick off baseball and everyone was talking about Earl. Great guy, amazing manager.
  23. I guess I should ask, are we interested in doing it soon?
  24. So were we interested in doing a SF Choice best of 2012?
