  1. I have Californication already, but thanks. Also took down I Left My Wallet in El Segundo. And I Love L.A. and Malibu and Losing California by Sloan.
  2. I posted about this in the Get The Word Out forum. It's a pretty cool song. Haven't heard the Willie Nelson version but the one by Pansy Division. Pretty cool!
  3. Folsom State was in California, but it's more famous foritsline about Reno, Nevada, don't you think? Thanks for the list though! I'll have to check all these out. I'm not really familiar with country music, but will check these out. Let's see... Little Old Lady From Pasadena *maybe FreeFallin' and All I Wanna Do?
  4. I'm going to be a total geek and make a playlist on my iPod relating to songs about Caifornia, songs with California in the title. (I want to keep myself motivated about a future move there, maybe and a near future trip to a friend's house!) I know the obvious ones (Led Zeppelin, Phantom Planet, The Eagles, Mamas and the Papas) but can help me out here by completing the list I have going? California Girls California Dreaming California Hotel California California Uber Alles (doesn't all have to be positive!) It Never Seems To Rain in Southern California California Love *(maybe...I will be in the Southern part) L.A. Woman Nobody Walks in L.A. Los Angeles
  5. I remember that one. All they played in that commerical were the lyrics "Some people born made to wave the flag, ooh the red white and blue!" and then they just said the jeans name. It was really tacky. Not as tacky as incumbent politicians who must have been half asleep while they listened to the radio and picked songs like "Born in the U.S.A." and "Pink Houses" (songs that clearly talked about problems within America, probably created by the current administration) as their rallying anthems. Hmmm....a song is only about 4 minutes, surely they can listen to it all?
  6. The show in Hong Kong was really cool! The stage setup was pretty minimal but they had a really cool light show. The set seemed pretty short, just about 90 minutes including encore, but any questions of how their sound would tranlste live were answered pretty quickly by the first song. They were really loud and really good. Loved the drums! Alex Kapranos' stage presence was pretty entertaining as well...lots of rock posing, but I think there was somne irony involved.
  7. Wonder what the musical will be about. Will it be as good as Capeman?
  8. I don't know. I appreciated the sentiment of what I first thought the song was about: how you just meet someone randomly passing you by and there is this instant attraction, this, damn why does he have to get off the bus as I am leaving it? Or something like that. But then he said it was about an ex-girlfriend, and how he saw her randomly with a new boyfriend one day, and while yeah it happens all the time that we pine over failed relatonships, I liked the first interpretation of the song I had better. His voice is quite distinctive, but I don't think I'd want to hear an album's worth of it.
  9. I would have rather seen something done to Rock and Roll myself!
  10. Isnt it moving to a new network like Showtime?
  11. I forgot about Alice Cooper in Wayne's World: "Milwaukee is derived from an Indian word meaning the good land..." and then Wayne totally speechless over Alice Cooper's funfact: "I was not aware of that!" And Billy Idol was great in The Wedding Singer!
  12. I actually want to see that movie only cause Neil Diamond is in it. Burt Bacharach in Austin Powers was also a nice, cheesy touch. And I thought it was really cool at the time to see Sting in Quadrophenia!
  13. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb was an album that grew considerably on me with every listen. There are some really good songs on there, but I do have to say I agree with the spirit of what you are saying Batman. Atomic Bomb was nothing like All That You Can't Leave Behind, Achtung Baby or The Joshua Tree. And Get Behind Me Satan is a pretty damn good album! I saw something on Hong Kong TV about the Grammies but I'm not sure exactly when they are on. I'll look the info up, but I fear I missed it already!
  14. "It's only love And that is all Why should I feel The way I do? It's only love And that is all But it's so hard Loving you." It's Only Love The Beatles
  15. You picked a fine time to leave him, Lucille! Seriously, I hope they find the dog all right. I'd hate to have a pet and have it go missing.
  16. After watching The Last Waltz I want to know more about The Band. This always happens to me -- everytime I hear of a band, it becomes new to me, I want to know as much about them as I possibly can.
  17. Something like Mayhem...that has to be a lot of tough talk under the belief that any press is good press. I remember when I was younger my brother's friend had a tape made by a woman named Kat who supposedly was a Satanic violin prodigy (but she chose to sing in a metal band.) The name of the album was called "Worship Me Or Die." At the time, I found that a bit scary, but I'm sure now if I saw it, I'd be greatly amused. There is something about Slipknot that sits not quite right with me. It has nothing to do with their music or their stage antics, but their masks are just a little disturbing. Oh and Captain and Tenille, that's pretty scary.
  18. I'm watching this as I type and have to agree with whoever said it's strange to see The Band young and know that some have passed away already. I'm just sorry to say I wasn't around to appreciate the significance of why The Band felt the need to make this film. They must have been really something back in the day to do this. I have to say I think Rick Danko has got to be one of the more animated bass players I have seen in awhile. It was great hearing Helpless by Neoil Young, but I guess I wanted to hear a more straightforward version of The Weight. Don't get me wrong, it was really well done, but I'm just used to the version I heard on The Big Chill CD and was looking forward to seeing The Band take turns with the singing.
  19. Wow, that sounds really sad, the idea of Hall and Oates being on Will and Grace.
  20. Forrest Gump is a great soundtrack! I third the vote. Heh.
  21. Bono Eddie Vedder Kurt Cobain Elvis Costello Paul Weller Joe Strummer Pete Townshend Lou Reed Thurston Moore Deborah Harry I guess I look at cool as being some parts disaffected grunge and some parts disaffected neo-punk. Ha! *Oh my God Franz Ferdinand are definitely cool...don't know about singling out Alex Kapranos but yeah, they are cool for sure!
  22. Hmmm...thanks Shawna. It's interesting but I'm not sure I completely buy it.
  23. Jesus Christ forgot about Panic as well! That's a damn good song too, and one I can really relate to! Ha!
