    Give and Take

Carly's "You're So Vain" was an anthem of the '70s and is probably one of the best critiques of so much of the world of entertainment ever written. Depeche Mode
  2. "..playin' solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of 51, smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain ...Kangaroo, Now don't tell me, I've nothin' to do. "
  3. Never really much of a fan, but I watched a bit from time to time. Anyone recall Jimmy "The Super-Fly" Snooka ? :: What does seem surprising is that most of these guys could turn off their characters outside of the ring and were often gentle giants and pretty decent guys -- unlike many NBA stars these days ! Oh, Kobe, and others ....

    B Movies

Soulgirl, not specifically' straight to video', though many of those could also be considered 'B's. What it means to me are movies that generally have low production values, budgets, etc. Mostly made on the cheap with likely unknown (often also untalented) directors, casts, scripts. Naturally, most are predictably considered awful by mainstream audiences, though there are some surprises . Sometimes their 'badness' is considered a virtue by some -- kind of like a silly song or bad art, I guess, and some even achieve cult status. Many of the 50's monster movies pumped out to feed the growing drive-in crowd would be good examples, silly and not taken too seriously (nor watched in many cases ): titles like "I Was A Teenaged Werewolf" or "Earth v.s The Flying Saucers. I hope that helps, but I'm sure some of the other posters could add to or clarify the definition somewhat. ::
  5. There's gotta be a few disbelievers (or they're in on it) , but I'm sure the conspiracy is deeper than what's been so simply laid out .... ::
  6. MikeN, with the yen, falling through the roof, and the N. Koreans taking pot shots just for fun ? You have no IDEA ! Marc, if you're really Marc (gotta trust someone), check this out : Edna, AKA Sophie Belloche, is /was a KGB mole in Franco's Spain for ... well, years now ! She and her cohorts brought down that regime and have been quietly plotting the People's Republic Of Espania for quite a few years now. How'd she do it ?... The "White Album"... Huh! Eh? Make sense now ?
  7. Ok, man, I've been doing some research and what I've found ain't pretty. Check THIS out : #1 : CARL, if THAT really is his name, is working for the Feds! Due to congressional obstructions over information gathering techniques,CARL, and others of his ilk are using 'web forums' to collect data on the unsuspecting. That's right ! -- all your confessionals , opinions, impressions, likes/dislikes, smart-ass comments, etc. are being put into profiles AS I SPEAK (or as you read) according to your web addresses, etc. #2 : Sammy is a long-time DEA vet looking for kingpins and code. A bit of a renegade; having pledged 'life-long' allegience to Nancy Reagan, personally (of 'Just Say No' fame), he's a bit of a 'loose cannon' in the department, and is best known for having trained Don Johnson in all the right moves ! ' Miami' Sammy making a little more sense now, people ? Oh , I bet there's a thousand more shocking stories out there .... ::
  8. They're actually from New Zealand ; not that I care so much, but the Kiwi's sure do ! Kind of like calling Canadians "Americans" -- it mostly rings true , but they'll usually take exception ! :: "Shark Attack" is another great tune. OH ! and of course, "One Step Ahead"
  9. " The Last Waltz" --The Band Alot of different artsts on this one, Dan. Check to see if there are some you like.
  10. Feeling slight resonsibility for this thread, I'd like to affirm parents viewing in that 'pot' refers to the potted geranium , which has been an ongoing discussion here in the threads--man, they're awful to keep healthy in the winter ! Frisbees have been mentioned; though I wonder if anyone here has also 'kept their geraniums' by by burning off the cigarette paper and leaving a cheap foil... nasty results, but still worthwhile;as the blooms do come predominately in April.----- Free Martha ! ::
  11. Off topic ? There's no 'off topic' at Songfacts !
  12. Jr,( fake shocked look) ::, p.s that's a damn fine idea for a new thread --- little gimmicks your pals used for "feeling groovy" -- However, being an all ages web-site 'feeling groovy' naturally refers to the wonderful feeling one has when one realizes that one is full of spunk and get-go with a 'devil-may-care' attitude -- Parental 13 ::
  13. Though I couldn't really roll with the Kiss fans (always suspicious of the great R&R swindle as well as make-up issues --which I now think (hope) was a parody of glam rock ?!), in hindsight, I'd have to say that they were trying to reinvigorate rock when it was dying, seriously, and I salute them for it. Fortunately for all; before they got too big for their britches came, " God save the Queen, she ain't no human being".... and they all lived happily ever after... It reminds me so much of what my dear departed father used to say, " What the Hell are you doing in the bathroom all day and night ? Why don't you get out of there and give someone else a chance ?" --- "Young Frankenstein"
  14. Thanks ,Bazooka.. should have done a little research .I guess what's new is old, they say. For convenience sake though, nevermind .. carry on... an entirely original thread,Bwahhahhaaa ! Bazooka, you're getting sleeeeepy, very sleeeepy..... ::
  15. Laywer fees $ 2000.00 + ; who's really laughing here ?
  16. I saw her workin' last Monday mornin' flagging cars to make a trick though I knew she was still a sweetheart she was still the queen of the lovin' arts A girl like that don't play forever she gives you all that you can be and while we all like her silly teasin' Seems she's lost in a quiet scream , you see How many times have you met her floating like clouds or driftwood, my son though she says her heart's of amber she still loves it when' push comes to shove ' Well, she's the lady Marlowe, $ 200 dollars in her hand and though I thought just she wanted lovin' It seems she just seems that she wanted to get off Forgive ::
  17. Probably alot of you remember buying a new album, in this case a 33RPM), and hoping that the album cover/ inserts would enlighten you a little or entertain you while you were listening to it. I guess CD's may have the same effect, though they didn't for me (too small) .Perhaps for many of us this was the closest we could physically feel towards some music/group/ singer/ etc. that we were into at the time and wanted to find some 'meaning' in it -- obvious or otherwise; unless we were lucky enough to catch a concert. Any rememberences ? "Some Girls" - Rolling Stones -- clever at first, but just struck me as goofy later. "Exile on Main Street" - Rolling Stones -- great photography, started buying book collections after "School's Out" -- Alice Cooper -- a great collection of wackiness "Unmasked"-- Kiss-- A comic book format with so much anticipation--but... ?! "Hotel California" -- I've since heard that place actually exists as a hotel in California but all I can say is, " The spirit of Christ compels you.. ".
  18. A tie , for me : " If You Could Read My Mind" and "The Ballad of The Edmond Fitzgerald" both by Gordon Lightfoot -- ok, and no Dylanesque rock/folk debates, please ! :: "when you reach the part where the heartache comes the hero would be me But heros often fail And you won't read that book again Because the ending's just too hard to take"

    Give and Take

'Atta boy ! definately one of Canada's best current rock bands. Perhaps a little lacking in musicianship when compared with Rush, lyrically they are maestros. This originally little pub band from Kingston, Ontario have grown into the ranks of the 'big boys'--just need some better promotion, IMO. Any takers should try "Fully, Completely" and "Day or Night". Give---Siouxsie and the Banshees
  20. Hopefully not TOO much so ! ( Keith ,stay out of Toronto then, and someone please tie-up Margaret Trudeau ) Great news , Windy ! That is some cheer for the New Year and beyond. Hope Charlie's up to it (what do they give that guy anyway ? Same stuff that propped all those old Soviet leaders ? ).
  21. This is a bit like 'skull-and-bones'; what happens next ?
  22. Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" Elvis "Greatest Christmas Songs"
  23. All apologies , jillian! Just a manic interlude. Seriously, i-pod rules -- screw fashion or anti-fashion !
