Kyle
I'm trying to understand the meaning of this song. Any help? Angels and Airwaves - It Hurts Is this what you want 'Cause everybody acts without a clue Every little kiss and grin you gave Was just a little bulls**t I saw through The alcohol I scented with your breath You're always open up to just be used I'm waiting for excuses that deceive I'll meet you in the back to see them through How did I let her inside We're dripping of sweat, and feeling alright Her lips were the last thing touched tonight Your best friend is not your girlfriend It hurts... [x17] Are you out of your mind You dug yourself into a liar's hole You made a little spark to live inside It's now a f***ing fire out of control When the morning comes you'll act surprised And when the word gets out it will get old And every day you'll try to live your life In every little scam that will unfold How did I let her inside We're dripping of sweat, and feeling alright Her lips were the last thing touched tonight Your best friend is not your girlfriend Dream... you want it Dream... I want it too Dream... you want it Dream... I want it too How did I let her inside We're dripping of sweat, and feeling alright Her lips were the last thing touched tonight Your best friend is not your girlfriend It hurts [x17] (Your best friend is not your girlfriend) It hurts (Your best friend is not your girlfriend) It hurts (Your best friend is not your girlfriend) It hurts (Your best friend is not your girlfriend) It hurts (Your best friend is not your girlfriend) It hurts (Your best friend is not your girlfriend)
Farin
I don't know the song, but from the lyrics I would say, it's about a boy who seduces his (female) best friend, maybe at a party (because of the alcohol). They have sex, and he realizes that it's not real (although he wants it to be), in the morning she probably won't remember anything, or laugh it off. At least that's what I thougt of it after the first reading hope it helps...
edna
Yep, that´s what it seems... they are drunk, they have sex, and in the morning he realises he shouldn´t have done it... just like real life!
blind-fitter
Hmmmm...you could be right. On reading the lyric I initially thought it was an expression of the narrator's despair at trying to maintain a relationship with a person who has succumbed to alcoholism/substance abuse, that this has caused an emotional distance between them, and caused her to become less loveable and less able to love. Although she is still "available" for the physical side of the relationship, her heart isn't in it: maybe she just "goes through the motions". Alcohol is her new best friend. She is unwilling to acknowledge her problem and (as usually happens) fabricates in order to hide her guilty secret. He feels guilty and angry at collaborating in this deceit, etc.etc. But on reading it back, Farin, I think you're probably nearer the mark. invisible_r
i think the "How did I let her inside We're dripping of sweat, and feeling alright Her lips were the last thing touched tonight" makes it kind of obvious that they had sex or something like that
Shawna
I have to agree with B-F's summary. When I read it, I immediately thought she was hooked on booze or drugs. He loves her and he'll have sex with her, but she's too far gone for him to bring back to being his best friend - she's got a new best friend now - her addiction. Farin
I just looked it up, it has it's own article in Wikipedia: DeLonge: "I have a friend who's got a girlfriend that's the cheating type. It's a terrible situation where my friend is being crushed from the inside out by all the manipulative stuff she's doing and this song's about that." Kyle
I just looked it up, it has it's own article in Wikipedia: That confuses me then. Because then the best friend thing doesn't make sense. Edited May 27, 2006 by Guest
