JumboXL
Black Sabbath have been named the most important British hard rock band in a new poll. The Birmingham band, led by Ozzy Osbourne, were named the most important hard rock group in a BPI poll of 3,600 hard rock and metal fans. Sabbath were far ahead of their competition, taking almost half of all votes cast. Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin came in second and third respectively. http://www.nme.com/news/black-sabbath/67260
Rayzor
I dunno... Led Zeppelin were bigger than the Beatles at one point. Which 15 year olds did they ask?
TheLizard
Led Zeppelin is clearly the best in terms of both talent and facemeltingness (an important and oft-overlooked quality in any hard rock band), but an argument can be made for Black Sabbath as the most influential as well as the most original. bluesboy
Led Zep should rank 1st. They were the 2nd biggest and influential overall rock band following the Stones after the Beatles broke up.
Kevin
The British often have some surprising choices (to N.Americans) in certain genres. Many also tend to rank Queen as the best rock band often in a number of past surveys as well. I think they favor originality and theatricality over the more traditionally blues influenced bands like Zep, AC/DC or Def Lepard which N.Americans often would rank more highly, perhaps, and thus Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath would rank more highly to them, imo. Rayzor
Oh, yes, they WOULD stand a chance, seeing that the Young boys were actually born in Scotland. You've angered many Scots by saying that they are British! If I were you I'd avoid Scotland and any Scottish pubs lest you be strung up
