goldfinger Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 To think that guy could sit down and write music for these musicals.... whiz it all onto disc and then sit back and watch the money rolling in. With just one musical... Phantom of the Opera... he sold over 40 million albums ! Many top groups have a 20 year career without getting total sales near that figure In fact I think Phantom beats Sgt Pepper sales... am I wrong ?
edna Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Lloyd Weber is a music&money machine. Like Bjorn&Benny... except that I prefer Bjorn&Benny...
pinkstones Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 He ripped off Pink Floyd. If you listen to the Phantom of the Opera overture, you'll hear a very distinct similarity to a chord progression/sequence in Echoes. Roger Waters was rather peeved about that.
goldfinger Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 Funny you should say that because the big number... Jesus Christ Superstar is a big rip off from that song... Cast my fate to the wind. But then, they re all at it Justin's... Nights in white satin is a rip off from the song... "I....I who have nothing...."
edna Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 There's nothing new under the rock and roll&pop sun.
RockyRaccoon Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Of course not. Throw in a I-V-vi-IV chord progression and you've got almost any song you want.
