Tino451
I have a project to find songs that are about human rights, either in a positive way or negative way. Does anyone have any songs in mind? Thanks.
MindCrime
Right Now - Van Halen I heard this on the way home from shopping an hour ago. It is about human rights and sticking up for your beliefs. The video (link posted) also accompanies this meaning.
Farin
"Imagine" is an obvious choice Get Up, Stand Up ~ Bob Marley So now you see the light, eh! Stand up for your rights. Come on! Strange Fruit ~ Billie Holiday or some not as well known songs: W.M.A. ~ Pearl Jam Crying Shame ~ Jack Johnson and here's a poem I stumbled across while looking for songs: First they came for the Jews, but I wasn’t a Jew, so I didn’t react. Then they came for the communists, but I wasn’t a communist, so I didn’t object. Then they came for the homosexuals, but I wasn’t a homosexual, so I didn’t stand up. Then they came for the political activists, but I wasn’t a political activist, so I didn’t protest. Then they came for me… and by that time no one was left to stand up. ~ Martin Niemöller

Farin
Chumbawumba has a few called Homophobia and Enough is Enough you could probably put up half of their discography in this thread here Homophobia is a nice example but you have to be a bit cautious, I don't know what the project of the OP is for, and some songs can get a bit radical Enough is Enough is Enough Give the Fascist man a gunshot (*sound of gunshot*) as further example: Sing About Love I don't want to sing about anger and hate I don't want to sing about fear and defeat I don't want to sing about the things I always sing about I wish I could sing about love I don't want to sing about war and greed I don't want to sing about those we can't feed I don't want to sing about the things I always sing about I wish I could sing about love I don't want to sing about suffering and pain I don't want to sing for another campaign I don't want to sing about the things I always sing about I wish I could sing about love I don't want to sing about rights and wrongs I don't want to sing all the same old songs But I'll sing them, and sing them, 'til there's no need to sing them And then I can sing about love.
