cyberjudge
Velcome to the Halloween edition of Golden Oldies Top 40. I’m DJ von Ceejay & I’ll be your ghost (I mean your host) for this veek’s countdown. 3 songs met their doom this Halloween: The end came at last for At Last by Etta James, after a run to #5. Peggy Sue got unmarried to the chart, after waltzing up to #20. And 16 Candles by the Crests got blown out this week after burning all the way to #1. 3 new songs appear, all in the 1st 3 spots in the countdown: At #40, the Fleetwoods come softly to the charts with Come Softly to Me. Gene Pitney blows into town at #39 with Town Without Pity. And the highest debut this week, at #38, is a return to the chart by Del Shannon, who hit #1 with Runaway. His newest entry is Keep Searchin’. 2 songs make 11 digit-jumps this week: It’s a fine day for One Fine Day by the Chiffons, as the King-Goffin composition, shines its way from #38 to #27. And where Connie Francis is is shooting up the chart, as Where the Boys Are moves from #36 to #25. This week, there are 25 solo acts in our countdown, 14 groups, and 1 duo; that lone duo, Deep Purple by Nino Tempo & April Stevens, moves up 6 notches from #22 to #16. If they reach the top 10, they would be the 1st duo to do so since the Everly Brothers in week #12. No new songs entered the top 10 this week, the 1st time that has happened since week #32. But the biggest mover within the 10 kicks off our top 4: Moving up 6 slots from #10 to #4 is the 2nd top 5 hit by Ricky Nelson, Poor little Fool. Ricky’s other top 5 hit went to #1, Travelin’ Man. The Rays climb from #6 to #3 with Silhouettes. Bobby Vinton becomes the 5th artist with 2 top 2 hits as Blue on Blue moves up from #5 to #2. The others are , Ben E. King, Lesley Gore, and the artist who holds at #1 again this week: Dion, with The Wanderer. That’s all for this week’s “rapâ€. Hope you got more treats than tricks this Halloween. Until next week, keep your head in the stars and keep reaching for the ground.
