  1. Martin, Maybe I misunderstand you, I was referring to Facts vs. Comments for a given song. Facts are submitted and verified to be accurate by the board adminstrator. Comments on the other hand are unsubstantiated and an example might be... "this song was played too much on radio" or "I think the lyrics of this song are very similar to a song by another artist" or even, "my first date, this song was playing on the radio". These are comments, and are common types of comments. Again if you see comments that "you feel" are inappropiate please let Carl, Sara or one of us moderators know and we we forward this on to the adminstration of this site for review. It is the admistrators that decide what is and is not appropiate for this site. I hope my response has been helpful. Mike

  3. This board does RULE!! I am glad this has been addressed, bandwidth costs money! Like the rest of you I use this site "free-of-charge", -yet someone foots the bill. Also copyright infrigement could cause our owners serious problems. Mike
  4. I like what I'm reading. I am an ex-smoker 3-4 years now, (I forget-it was November) and smoked for 25 years. I think smokers are "labeled" disfunctional or weak. Undisireable. I don't think it's fair at all. Personally I don't want to be in a smoking environment, but at the same time, tolerance and respect must be adhered to, I believe. Smoking sections, well I always got a chuckle outta of the saying "a smoking section in a restaurant is like a peeing section in a smimming pool". Good dicussion though folks. Thanks for your opinions on this. I too agree *private* business owners should have choices of their own, government shouldn't interfer.
  5. John Candy was fantastic, too bad he "retired" early, sad. Summer Rental and The Great Outdoors are favorites in my house. You ever notice in the suspense movies, thrillers, how important the music is? Especially instuments like the cello, tuba, violin etcetera? Wow, next time you are watching one, mute it and un-mute it... it's an incredible difference!
  6. DUBLIN (Reuters) - Fibber Magee's has become the first pub in Ireland to openly defy the country's new smoking ban, allowing customers to light up in a last-ditch attempt to stay in business and incurring the wrath of the government. The city centre pub in Galway, western Ireland, has seen its business drop by 60 percent since March when smoking in workplaces became illegal. With ruin staring him in the face, co-owner Ronan Lawless felt he had to act. "We had absolutely no option," Lawless, 33, told RTE state radio on Wednesday. "We were going to be out of business in the next month anyway." About 200 people packed into an upstairs room at the pub on Tuesday evening for a cigarette in the first major challenge to the nationwide ban. Health Minister Micheal Martin described what happened as "an unacceptable defiance of the law" and warned others not to follow suit. "You can take it from me there will be no holds barred in terms of taking this head-on and upholding the law in all its aspects," Martin said, adding the vast majority of Irish people supported the ban. The health ministry said enforcement officials, nicknamed "Cancer Cops", had already launched an investigation. Anyone convicted of breaching the anti-smoking law can be fined 3,000 euros (2,000 pounds). The ban -- an effort to protect employees from passive smoking -- has divided opinion in a country where cigarette smoke and Guinness have been an integral part of social life for generations. "It is part and parcel of Irish tradition, a pint and a smoke, and please God may it continue," one drinker at Fibber Magee's told RTE. The Vintners' Federation of Ireland, which represents 6,000 rural pubs, said sales dropped by between 15 and 25 percent in May and June. "A workable compromise needs to be considered," said VFI President Seamus O'Donoghue. "Members have real and justified fears for the futures of their businesses and for their staff." But a survey for the Sunday Tribune newspaper last month found the ban had made little or no difference to the majority of Irish pubs. Five percent said sales were up. The ban has been closely watched around the world. Norway followed Ireland's lead in June and 4,500 British doctors called this week for the government to adopt similar measures. Should smoking be banned in private places? Should America ban smoking in private places?
  7. A direct link/button to each post that enable any member to private message the appropriate moderator to report any offensive/inappropriate material. I think if we make it real easy and simple to report problems, this will make it better for us all. It might serve as a deterrant for people to post inappropiate material. We mod's/adm's cannot be here reading every post 24/7/365 and we need the members help to keep the forums clean, fun and wholesome, ok well at least clean and fun. :: This is a great place and we need to keep it that way!! Mike
  8. Welcome to Songfacts Martin! I think that "opinions" of members is important. Facts and Comments are two different things. While your case in point is rare and justifiably "inappropiate", however if you consider a song that is widely popular Hotel California-By the Eagles Songfacts Link -there is many comments on this song, in fact many more comments than facts, I personally find it interesting to read so many "opinions" of meanings, theories about undetermined, unfounded and undisclosed aspects of songs and their meanings. It's what the listeners are thinking, it's the pulse of the music-listening-community! Or at least the ones who cared to register and add their thoughts. There is over 22,000 members, only a fraction actually make their marks here at Songfacts. By all means send a private message to Sara or Carl if you find anything offensive in the comments of a song, if you find anything you find objectionable in the forums please contact the appropriate moderator for that forum for review. Thanks for your concerns, and thank you for contributing to this great site. Mike
  9. JURASSIC PARK The third one was a little weak, suffered from not being directed by the master Spielberg (*side note- on it's own it would be concidered much better, but preceeded by JP and Lost World it has more to stand up to). Mike
  10. I know your with me Cindy, because you have incredible taste in people and music. I don't think anyone in Rush overshadows or is overshadowed, I don't think they care if they are number 1 or number 873,179,523 in the list of good/great musicians. They just do what they do, they enjoy it and they want others to enjoy it too. They all have and make a lot of money and seem to be having a good time in life. Alex's fingers are starting to become aged, and as he stated in the Rio-dvd documentary, he has had issues. He is and has always been "underrated" (IMHO) but so are a lot of musicians. By the way, I didn't have a drop of liquor at the show, my 12-yo daughter was with me so I refrained, I would have normally had a couple brews. Take care, Mike
  11. No, no notepad, I viewed the set list and from what I remember that was it, except, as I state, I'm not 100% certain, no money back guarantees, ok? :: Mike
  12. Why oh why, must I bring the obvious to the surface!! with the double neck! A classic photo!!! Playing Bravado I'll bet! A favorite shot of mine - Alex's guitar prowess started at the age of 11, when his parents bought him his first guitar. Formed in 1969, Rush has become Canada's foremost progressive rock band to date. After three moderately successful releases, the band reached a worldwide audience with "2112." With Lifeson's searing guitars, Geddy Lee's innovative bass lines, and Neil Peart's groundbreaking drumming, the band continues to break ground that it established some three decades ago. During a break in the band's touring schedule, Lifeson tried his hand with a solo effort, "Victor," which was released to critical acclaim. With the release of the band's 20th album, they continue to astound audiences worldwide. Thank you for your support! :guitar: Mike
  13. I had the pleasure of seeing this man in his early days, with Bon Scott, Aug. 30th 1978: Seattle, WA (Coliseum) Supporting Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick. When this guy (Angus Young) took to the stage, me and my buddy stood there absolutely motionless, jaws on the floor, watching this guy (cross between Chuck Berry and the Tazmanian Devil) rock the stage from side to side absolutey setting his guitar strings on fire! Check this out: Angus Young Signature Gibson SG with -a faithful reproduction of the artist?s original trademark axe. IN A WORD ... AWESOME! And the man who started it all... Mister Les Paul ~~~~~~~~~~ ROCK ON ~~~~~~~~~ Mike
  14. Getting back to the basics of this forum ... I (as many of you as well) watch and have watched alot of movies over the years, hundreds, thousands! Years ago, the music was all "orchestral" (Breakfast at Tiffiny's) or folksy (The Flim flam Man). Then the Epics such as Rogers and Hammerstein films, James Bond, and of course Sound of music stands out. Then acoustics - (e.g.The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) Jazzy, (Dirty Harry) and so forth. Then things got contempory "raindrops keep falling on my head" (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid). Now it's rock and roll, pop music and more mainstream type music. So what's next, will it recycle? I know there is still some remaining today, but not as much. Will we see a return of the mamoth music scores of the previous generations?
  15. OK, fine!! I'll play - What is your favorite word? cockamamie What is your least favorite word? no What turns you on? 18. That's what it said on the ticket, when I first gazed upon it a few months ago, I thought, what a warm way to phrase it, what a "personal" way to phrase it. Well after months of waiting for a concert, the first concert I have attended since 1983, that's right, 1983! Let me just start by saying Rush in Rio lit a fire in me that had smoldered to a barely distinguishable cinder last November. I love music, especially hard rock music. But I re-identified with Rush, a band I had been modestly enjoying on and off for the last 3 decades, in a huge way! After seeing Rush in Rio, then learning of the anniversary tour...I knew I must attend! In addition this gave me an opportunity to share my love for music with my daughter. So we parked the car and took the shuttle to the venue, we got cash from the machine and got our shirts and found our way to our seats, not the best, not the worst. The spot light on Neil's kit, and the crowd goes wild! My daughter was so impressed with the gold shimmer from the hardware on the professors massive set of drums. From the opening of the show I could see the look in my daughters eyes, that look of amazement as she witness the thunder from Alex's amplifiers as he seemingly effortlessly picked away at those all so familiar chords and notes, the smoke filling the stage and the lights and lasers dancing throughout the arena as fans erupted in cheers and shouts of approval to every recognizable tune, hit after hit they played with relentless enthusiasm and energy, made me continually re-ask that question - how old are these guys again?. The first half of the show came to a close, a 15-20 minute break ensued as we stretched and peered around at the enormous diversity of the crowd on hand, fathers with daughters and sons, young teens, hippies, grandfathers, my daughter was definitely surprised at how many other "families" were in attendance. The second half opened with still more energy, some of the crowd were recharged thanks to their visits to the beer gardens, and Alex, Geddy and Neil seemed to have "kicked it up a notch" as the blew through still what seemed like an endless barrage of great songs from a not so distant past, playing with such pleasure and endurance. After what appeared to be the last song, but no one was really fooled, they blasted even more tuned out in an encore that can only be described as AWESOME. Well we left feeling very satisfied, far more than a couple dozen songs and three and a half hours of relentless Rush! OUTSTANDING!! Like a fine wine these guys continued to better with age. I can't wait until they tour again; I hope with all my strength that 2006 brings with it a new album and a new tour! I will be there, my daughter will be there, and by then my son will be old enough... he will be there too. An evening with Rush, and a lifetime with Rush! Have a great weekend! and Safe and splendid Indenpence day!! ~Mike

    Hoku

She pretty much made her debut (per se) with the theme song from "Legally Blonde" with *Perfect Day*. I like that song! She also did a few other good ones, then she apparently dissappeared...
  24. Ooops, and.... Dana Dawson sings the theme song while Elliot Lurie, the show's music supervisor, wrote the song. Mike
