  1. That was the 5th time I nominated On The Dark Side, and it FINALLY made it!

  5. I'd just tell them to leave me the hell alone, as forcefully as I could. I wouldn't get loud, I wouldn't use profanity, but I'd make damn sure they understand the intent of every single syllable.
  6. Funny, I'm not over 40, and most of that applies to me too. I didn't get my own cell phone until I was in college, our family didn't get a computer with Internet until 2002. Before then, I could only use it at school. I've never owned, nor used, a video game system or console. We have a microwave, but I know how to cook, and would much rather make my meals that way. As for the ones about TV, I don't watch TV anymore. If there's any shows I want to watch, I watch them online, or download the torrent after it airs.
  7. 1. Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen (1975) 2. Stroke, The - Billy Squier (1981) 3. She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer (1983) 4. Peace of Mind - Boston (1976) 5. Five O'Clock World - The Vogues (1965) 6. Working My Way Back To You Girl - The Spinners (1979) 7. Sixteen Tons - Tennessee Ernie Ford (1955) 8. We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place - The Animals (1965) 9. Working Class Hero - John Lennon (1970) 10. 9-5 - Dolly Parton (1980)
  8. Can we also nominate blue-collar artists, or musicians who've always been identified with the blue-collar set? Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen (1975) When I think blue-collar, The Boss always comes to mind. The Stroke - Billy Squier (1981) A song about trying to make it, and then what happens to you, when you get in the music industry. She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer (1983) Every woman (and man) struggling to keep their family afloat knows the feeling.
  9. If I didn't have tons of leftovers in my fridge, I'd get Chinese for dinner tonight and join you. There's a great restaurant not far from my house that makes the best Sesame Chicken you've ever eaten.
  10. Everything is made in China. Companies exploit the cheap workforce there. Why pay a Canadian X number of dollars to make that flag, when you can pay some Chinese kids 1/10th of that to make the same thing? I don't agree with it mind you, but that's the economic breaks. Not just for you, but for lots of countries.
  11. I don't copy/paste from Wikipedia, I write my own blurb using information taken from the Wiki article. If there's too much info in the article, I just do a direct quote and stick it between the quote tags.
  12. Don't Hang Up The Orlons Written by Dave Appell and Kal Mann, and featured on the album, The Wah-Watusi, Don't Hang Up reached #4 on Billboard's Pop Chart and #3 on its R&B Chart in 1962. It was one of the group's biggest songs and garnered notice again when it was featured in the 1993 film, Dennis the Menace. Information taken from Wikipedia.
  13. If you're a rich, white, straight, Christian male....by all means, vote for Romney. You're exactly the kind of person the GOP wants and needs. If you're poor, gay, a woman, a minority, or not Christian and you vote for Romney....something's wrong with you. You're voting against your interests. The GOP doesn't give a damn about anyone that couldn't be a stand-in for Gordon Gekko clutching a Bible. As a very, very, very liberal person (damn near socialist) Obama hasn't been as liberal as I'd wanted, or as I'd anticipated. That being said, Obama's got my vote from here until the end of time. I don't know anyone who voted for him four years ago who won't be voting for him in November.
  14. Neil Armstrong dies, and aside from Farin, I'm the only other person to comment? That utterly depresses me.
  15. 1. That's Life - Frank Sinatra (1966) 2. Don't Hang Up - The Orlons (1962) 3. Cara Mia - Jay and the Americans (1965) 4. I Just Can't Help Believing - B.J. Thomas (1970) 5. Lean On Me - Club Nouveau (1987) 6. One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head (1984) 7. Who Loves The Sun - Velvet Underground (1970) 8. Venus In Furs - Velvet Underground (1967) 9. Downstream - Supertramp (1977) 10. Twisting By The Pool - Dire Straits (1981)
  16. That's Life - Frank Sinatra (1966) Don't Hang Up - The Orlons (1962) Cara Mia - Jay and the Americans (1965) Edit: Links added.
  17. I love the GOP ticket this year. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan aka The Android and The Randroid.
  18. Bronze medalists are just happy to medal. Silver medalists are sad they didn't win the gold. Like Farin said, in some of these sports, a 1 second difference can separate the color medal you get from not medalling at all.
  19. 1. Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits (1978) 2. A Beautiful Morning - The Rascals (1968) 3. Hot Fun in the Summertime - Sly and the Family Stone (1969) 4. Summertime's Calling Me - Catalinas (1975) 5. Summer Breeze - Seals & Croft (1972) 6. Summer in the City - The Lovin' Spoonful (1966) 7. Boys of Summer, The - Don Henley (1984) 8. In the Summertime - Mungo Jerry (1970) 9. Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters (1964) 10. Summertime - Janis Joplin (1968) I added years for some of the songs that didn't have any.
  20. LOL! I had a brain fart, there. Either way, I've always associated that song with baseball, even though it has nothing to with sports. Same with Boys of Summer by Don Henley, and that has nothing to with baseball either. It's close enough to count. :-P
  21. I'm changing one of my nominations, if that's alright. Cruel Summer is out, Sultans of Swing is in. Why Sultans of Swing? Babe Ruth's nickname was the Sultan of Swing, and he played baseball. Baseball is primarily played in the summer.
  22. Let me see if I get this straight; jumping and down and being pants-on-head excited that your daughter just nailed a difficult pass in an event she eventually won the gold medal in isn't "classy"? Also, if you think anything that was exhibited by Ms. Raisman's father is anything akin to what you'd see at Mardi Gras, you've clearly never been to Mardi Gras, unless her mother was also flashing her breasts for beads, while balancing a beer in her hand. It's sports. People are going to get excited, scream, cheer, jump and down, the whole gamillah. That's what you do. You don't sit on your hands and stare intently at what's in front of you like you're at the opera.
  23. That's what I get for not checking the site often enough; I didn't know there was a special this week. Here are my three noms: Summertime's Calling Me - Catalinas (1975) Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits (1978) A Beautiful Morning - The Rascals (1968) With that last nomination, every time I hear it, I think of driving down the road on a warm summer day with the top down.
