  1. Babe - Styx (1979) Two Tickets To Paradise - Eddie Money (1978) Devil Woman - Cliff Richard (1976)
  2. Don't feel bad Laurie; I've always hated having screaming kids at the table next to me when I'm trying to enjoy my meal, whether it's at McDonalds or a fancy restaurant. Age doesn't really have anything to do with that, I don't think. My parents raised my sister and I to be quiet and respectful when in public, no matter where that was, and I get annoyed when it looks like other parents didn't teach their kids the same thing.
  3. Those Songfactors who weren't able to nominate/vote because of power issues due to the hurricane should get a bonus pick for the next TT. Instead of nominating up to 3 songs, they can nominate up to 4.

  6. Not much is going to happen here tomorrow, aside from wind and a little rain. It's also supposed to be a lot cooler, so the combo of cooler air, 30 mph winds and drizzling rain is going make Monday suck more than Mondays usually suck.
  7. I've canvassed and done phone banks. Just like I did in 2008. I guess that means I can bicker on the Internet, now that I've also done something productive with my time.
  8. OH NO, THE DES MOINES REGISTER! THE ELECTION IS OVER! *rolls eyes* Yeah, and the paper in Salt Lake City endorsed President Obama. Who cares?

  10. I agree; a lot of great social and political change happened in the 1960s. Civil Rights Act, Loving v. Virginia, women's rights, gay rights...the list goes on. That being said, the polarization in this country was at its worst at that time, because it wasn't driven along party lines, it was all generational. In some areas it was also racial, but it mostly generational.
  11. If you want to know *real* polarization, how about looking at the late 60s. My parents were in their late 20s then....that wasn't Republican vs. Democrat, that was old vs. young. That was rich vs. poor, as people with more money often got deferments from service, and the poor kids were sent off to Vietnam as cannon fodder. My uncle was one of them. Also, the assassinations of MLK and RFK, race riots....nothing going on right now even remotely comes close to sniffing the mid to late 1960s.
  12. Oh trust me, I don't think the Democrats are infallible. I think the majority of them are spineless pussies. The current Democratic party isn't even completely in line with my own political ideology anyway; if there was a Socialist party that had as much pull as the two major parties, that's who I'd vote for. However, the Democrats are close to what I believe in a lot other areas, which is why they get my vote. You vote for who you agree with, as do I. I've voted 3rd party before on local and state issues here in North Carolina, so I don't vote straight-ticket Democratic.....but I refuse to vote for a Republican so long as the national party is at the behest of the theocratic right. I'm a woman, I'm not a Christian, I have a college degree....the national party hates people like me. I will not cast a ballot for someone representing a party that hates people like me. You'd have to think me crazy to do something like that. You can call that whatever you want, you can either like it or dislike it, I really don't care. The only people I truly believe are morons are the people who don't bother to get informed enough in the first place to vote, regardless of who they intend to vote for.
  13. Lake Shore Drive - Alliota Haynes and Jeremiah (1971) I Shall Be Released - Joe Cocker (1969) Gypsy - Fleetwood Mac (1982)
  14. I'm sure in some parts of this world, 12-year-olds do drugs and have sex, but that doesn't mean we should legalize all hard drugs and lower the age of consent to barely below puberty. While the argument can be made that there's a lot of people 21 and older who don't have the intelligence to drink responsibly, there's an even bigger argument to be made that 15-year-olds are even less likely to be able to drink responsibly. Not to mention, they're still children in the eyes of the law. You haven't reached majority status until you're 18. If you want to lower the drinking age to 18, I wouldn't necessarily argue against that, because at least 18-year-olds are legally adults. However, having been 15 at one point in my life, and seeing my sister go through 15....there's no way in scratch I'd want people that immature, irresponsible, and ignorant consuming alcoholic beverages.
  15. I've seen him live half a dozen times, and he never put it in the set list, but that's fine. If I want to hear the song, I'll just put on The River. I think he's said in the past he doesn't like doing his big radio hits, which makes sense, because he seldom does stuff off Born In The USA, which is his big "radio hit" album. I'd love to hear I'm On Fire and Cover Me, but I haven't been lucky enough yet. Maybe if he's got one more tour in him.....
  16. I think it's entirely up to the artist's discretion as to what their set list entails. If you buy concert tickets hoping to hear only one or two songs, and those songs don't get played, oh well. That's what you get for spending money on an entire concert for only one or two songs. I get why it's annoying, you love a song and you want to hear it, but it doesn't mean the artist is made lesser for NOT wanting to do it. Speaking of Springsteen, I love Hungry Heart, but if I see him live and he doesn't sing it, I don't get mad at him. With a catalog as large as he's got, there's going to be a lot of songs he doesn't do live, many of which are beloved by at least one fan who might be in attendance. Streets of Philadelphia won him an Academy Award, but I don't think he's done the song live since the Oscar telecast in 1995.
  17. I do select a candidate. That candidate is a Democrat. Frankly, I give less than a damn what anyone says or thinks about that. As long as the Republican party is run by Christofascists, they don't exist in my mind as a legitimate political party and therefore will never get my vote. As a woman, as an atheist, as someone with gay friends, as a pacifist.....the Democratic Party isn't perfect, but voting anything else would be suicide.
  18. Throwing away my vote will not make me "feel better." I live in a swing state, where my vote could make a difference. Voting for a Libertarian, which is nowhere close to my political ideology would in effect, be a wasted trip to the polling place, and I outright refuse to do that. Besides, Gary Johnson used to be a Republican, and I can't vote for anyone that has the stain of that on their resume. As long as the Jesus squad has a stranglehold on the GOP, I'll never vote for any of them.
  19. You can get your learner's permit in this country at 15; you think it smart to let 15-year-old's who don't even have a driver's license yet get legally hammered? As someone who has lost a dear friend to a drunk driver, I would very much NOT like to lower the drinking age to encompass even more morons than already drink and decide to get behind the wheel of a car. 15-year-olds can't vote, they can't even hold a job yet in some places, they can't drive....yet they should be able to drink?! No, no, and furthermore, NO.
  20. Someone needs to be reading Politifact on a daily basis.
