There is such a shortage of labour where I live that we make jokes about only needing a pulse to get a job. In order to retain good, qualified staff, employers need to make their workplace appealing for the employees. I imagine it takes money to properly train staff, and those companies that have high staff turnover lose out to their competitors who have learned to treat their people with respect.

Gas just went up here to $1.319 per liter. I think it works out to around $5/gallon in the States. I wonder if this will change travel plans for people this summer. I still see lots of SUV's and trucks around, so the high gas prices obviously aren't affecting purchasing patterns...
