  1. The actual quote is "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." I don't know if he would consider the right to recreationally shoot stuff an Essential Liberty.
  2. I thought her point was that other countries have stricter gun laws and have less gun violence as a result.
  3. An interesting perspective from one of my favorite people:
  4. Can we get this whole Christmas and New Year's thing over with so the real holiday, Game Day, can come along?

  6. To be fair, I'm surprised nobody accused me of being a writer for Rolling Stone, given my obvious classicist rock and roll bias.
  7. Oh definitely. None of us are criticizing the kid. We're criticizing the adults who are distracting from the main issue by blaming irrelevant cultural memes.
  8. Sounds like a cheesy version of Videodrome. Which is an awesome movie. Long live the new flesh!
  9. Be careful. This isn't reddit. People might take you seriously.
  10. :sleepy: I play video games, I must want to shoot people. I like Scorsese movies, I must be a gangster. I occasionally smoke pot, I must be a drug addict. I listen to Led Zeppelin, I must worship Satan. I read Steinbeck, I must be a communist. Every generation has a boogeyman that scares the earlier generation. None of those boogeymen turn out to be all that scary.

  12. Are you saying we're one of those countries? Related to the earlier argument, I also think this article is worth reading.
  13. Sure, gun violence is on the decline. But compare it to the rest of the world and it's still shockingly high. And it's especially high in the south, where guns are most abundant and easiest to obtain.
  14. John Lott is a Fox News contributor and the Cato Institute is a notoriously biased organization.
  15. Your opinion that more guns make us safer just isn't backed up by the facts. And there's no reason to be so condescending. Unless you really think my lack of violent urges makes me exceptional, which would be highly disturbing.
  16. Stoves aren't designed to burn people and eggs aren't designed to poison people. These ridiculous false equivocations entirely gloss over the fact that guns, especially hand guns and assault weapons, are designed for one main reason: to kill. And I've played plenty of violent video games and am a huge Tarantino fan. I have never even thought about killing a single human being. You have to be crazy to think that it's ok to do something like that just because it's on a game or a movie. Which this kid clearly was. He should have been treated and he shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near a gun.
