  1. Supremes Wild Horses: Stones or Flying Burrito Brothers
  2. After reading your posts, it´s really hard to imagine you as a "dour and humourless kid" ever. I was one of those who were unaware of the influence of The Pistols in Bananarama. I´m really surprised! I can´t stand that "electro-disco-pop" style anyway. Too modern for me! Mariska is really foxy. That´s the most precise word, even if it is not allowed!
  3. Sometimes a gitar face can be so dreadful and horrifying that must be hidden from the eyes of the audience to avoid massive panic... Link
  4. Edna, you always have the right image ready to illustrate the subjects of discussion. No girl from Bananarama can compare to the beautiful Mariska Veres!
  5. .................................................. Venus / Bananarama 1986. Original Shocking Blue 1970.
  6. If a song is good and makes me enjoy I like it to linger on and on. By the way, I love the long versions of "Suzie-Q" and "Heard It Through The Grapevine" by CCR. I consider it´s a pity that Foggerty´s guitar stops sounding when they get to the end.
  7. It´s not time enough to start getting bored. That´s good

  9. Yes it is. Here are the lyrics: Some folks like water Some folks like wine But I like the taste Of straight strychnine You may think it's funny That I like this stuff But once you've tried it You can't get enough (Wow!) Wine is red Poison is blue Strychnine is good For what's ailin' you If you listen to what I say You'll try strychnine some day Make you jump, it'll make you shout It'll even knock you out Strychnine hey, hey
  10. The Sonics made the original "Strychnine". The Fuzztones made a fantastic cover too.
  11. SIDE ONE 1.- 1-2-5 2.- Gotta get Some 3.- Journey To Tyme 4.- Ward 81 5.- Strychnine 6.- Radar Eyes SIDE TWO 1.- Cinderella 2.- Highway 69 3.- Just Once 4.- She´s Wicked 5.- As Time´s Gone 6.- Living Sickness The Fuzztones: Rudi Protrudi - Lead Snarl, Vox fuzz, harp. Michael Jay - Tone X. Deb O´Nair - Thrashtone organ. Elan Portnoy - Lead Grunge. Ira Elliot - Primal Throb. In the 80´s, from New York City, leaded by the charismatic frontman. singer, guitar and designer Rudi Protrudi and armed with their Phantom guitars, Vox fuzz pedals and organ, the Fuzztones became the main responsibles for the revival of the 60´s Garage Rock & Roll sounds, gaining for themselves the merit of discovering to many Rock & Roll lovers here in europe, eager for some new sensations and fresh air in the Rock universe (it´s curious that you have to turn your look back to the past, make a trip to the graveyard and exhume bands and styles entombed long ago), bands like The Sonics, The Count Five, Shadows of Knight, Kenny & The Kasuals and others, which captured tha basic essence (often forgotten nowadays) of old Rock & Roll: raw energy, unconventionalism, freaky attitude and provocation, and above all, pursuit of FUN. "Lysergic Emanations", their first LP is, in my humble opinion, their masterpiece. 12 discharges of powerful, energic and direct psycho-garage-Rock & Roll, which, like strychnine, "make you jump and make you shout", exciting the Rock & Roll animal inside us in a journey to the center of our freak minds. The record includes great covers of some garage classics: the opening powerful track "1-2-5", by The Haunted; "Gotta get some", a song by The Bold; Kenny & The Kasuals´ "Journey To Tyme"; The Godz´s disturbing "Radar Eyes"; The Tropics´ "As Time´s gone" ; Calico Wall´s disquieting "Living Sickness" and the great two Sonics´ classics "Strychnine" with a very fine Deb O´Nair´s job at the organ and the energic and bluesy "Cinderella". Along with these, some Protrudi´s original tracks: the fantastically insane "Ward 81", the beautiful ballad with spanish flavour "Just Once" and the band´s big classics "Highway 69" and "She´s Wicked". A classical revivalist recording recomendable for the lovers of the old 60´s garage stuff and a dood introduction for the young rockers who want to discover it
  12. It has always seemed funny to me that the only me that Frank is tne only member of the trio with no long beard. Isn´t it ironic? He should let his beard grow, I think.
  13. "Magic Bus", performed live in Leeds, in 1973.
  14. My top three: 1 John Bonham 2 Keith Moon 3 Ian Paice
  15. The reunion of the talents of Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young as the fourth element in the formula gave as a result this masterpiece in 1970. If the debut album of the supertrio had caused sensation with its nice combination of folk-pop and gorgeous vocal harmonies, the inclusion of the former Stills´ mate in Buffalo Springfield, bassist Greg Reeves and Dallas Taylor on the drums to strengthen the band in the live shows of 1969 supposed a leap ahead to a more direct, powerful and rocker sound for the band, with Young contributing not only with his singer and writter abilities, but with the nerve and energy of his guitar, which gives more consistence to the sound of the band, counter-balancing Nash´s tendency to the excess of mellowness and making the band move with agility across a wide range of styles: folk (the austere "4+20" by Stills), country (the unforgettable "Teach Your Children" by Nash, with its beutiful harmonies and Jerry Garcia´s pedal steel guitar collaboration, or the evocative Young´s ballad "Helpless), pop ("Our House", Nash´s mellow number), quasi- progressive psiquedelia (the opening track "Carry On", Crosby´s "Déjà Vu", with John Sebastian as guest star on the harmonica or Young´s mini-suite "Country Girl), and powerful guitar rock ("Almost Cut My Hair", Crosby´s self -afirmative hymn, with its magnificent duel of Still and Young´s guitars; "Woodstock" awesome cover on Joni Mitchel´s hippy anthem or the closing track "Everybody I Love You"). A great clasic from a big reunion of excelent musicians.
  16. "The Wall" is my favorite too, though it´s true that watching it can bring you down!
  17. And I would add "Mondo Bizarro" to the list. Great album!
  18. Another good movie, bluesboy! Ah, we have forgotten another Eastwood´s movie about a musician´s life: Honky Tonk Man. The main character, Red Stovall, is probably based on Hank Williams.
  19. Clint Eastwood´s "Bird", about Charlie Parker, is a great movie.
  20. ´Here´s some more Janis Ian´s information extracted from Wikipedia: Janis Ian (born April 7, 1951) is a Grammy-winning American songwriter, singer and multi-instrumental musician. Born Janis Eddy Fink in a Bronx hospital (she was raised in New Jersey), she changed her name while still a child. She had a successful singing career in the 1960s and 1970s. She wrote and sang her first hit single at age 15, the song "Society's Child", which told the story of an interracial romance forbidden by the narrator's parents. The song's lyrical content was too taboo for some radio stations which banned it, but that didn't stop it from becoming a hit, reaching #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also legally emancipated herself from her parents at age 15. Her most successful single was "At Seventeen", released in 1975, a bittersweet commentary on adolescent cruelty and teenage angst, as reflected upon from the maturity of adulthood. "At Seventeen" received acclaim from record buyers - it charted at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart - and critics, as it won the 1975 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, beating out the likes of Olivia Newton-John and Helen Reddy. Its parent album, "Between the Lines," also hit #1. She has also managed a sustained career as a songwriter - her composition "Jesse" was a hit for Roberta Flack in 1973 (Ian's own version is on her 1974 album "Stars"). She is an outspoken critic of the RIAA, a record industry organization which she sees as acting against the interests of musicians and consumers. As such, she has willingly released several of her songs, including the popular "Walking in the Rain," for free download from her website (see below for a link). "Fly Too High" (1980) was her contribution to the soundtrack of the Jodie Foster film Foxes. It earned her a Grammy nomination. One country where Ian has achieved a surprising level of popularity is Japan. She had two top 10 singles on the Japanese pop charts, "Love Is Blind" in 1976 and "You Are Love" in 1980, and her album "Aftertones" was a #1 best-seller there in October 1976. Besides being an award winning singer/songwriter, Ian writes science fiction. Her works have been published in an assortment of anthologies and she is co-editor, with Mike Resnick, of Stars: original stories based on the songs of Janis Ian, published in 2003. Ian married her long-time domestic partner, Patricia Snyder, on August 27, 2003. 21. Janis Ian´s first hit was "Society´s Child", which she wrote at age 15. Here are the lyrics: Come to my door, baby, face is clean and shining black as night. My mother went to answer, you know, and you looked so fine. Now I can understand your tears and your shame. She called you "boy" instead of your name. When she wouldn't let you inside. When she turned and said "But honey, he's not our kind." She said I can't see you any more, baby. Can't see you anymore. Walk me down to school, baby. Everybody's acting deaf and blind. Until they turn and say why don't you stick to your own kind. (Not sure about the rest of this verse. It sounds to me like) My teachers all laugh, they smirk and stare. Cutting deep down in our affair. Preachers of equality. They say "Believe us" but why won't they just let us be? They say I can't see you anymore, baby. Can't see you anymore. One of these days I'm gonna stop my listening, Gonna raise my head up high. One of these days I'm gonna raise my glistening wings and fly. But that day will have to wait for awhile. Baby, I'm only society's child. When we're older things may change. But for now this is the way they must remain. I say I can't see you any more, baby. Can't see you anymore. No, I don't wanna see you any more, baby
